Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) is the most common childhood cancer in Africa and is most prevalent in areas endemic for malaria. The disease, a malignant growth of lymphoid tissue, usually presents itself as a large tumor of the jaw. It is however, a rarity in the Indian subcontinent. Through an extensive literary survey, it is seen that only a few cases of BL have been reported, accounting for only 0.76% of solid malignant tumors among Indian children. Here we present a case of BL of mandible extending to maxilla in a 13-year-old boy of Indian origin.

Brown tumors are tumor-like, expansile osteolytic lesions of bone which are seen in both primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism. They generally resolve after surgical treatment of the parathyroid adenoma. This investigation was conducted to evaluate 20 cases of implant-retained prosthetic rehabilitation (mean follow-up of 35 months). Ear, nose, orbit and complex defects of the face have been restored. Our main indication was reconstruction in cancer patients after tumor surgery (n = 14). Rehabilitation was also performed in traumatic disorders (n = 3) and congenital aural malformations (n = 3). Our aim was to evaluate the quality of life (QoL) in patients with ameloblastoma who had been treated by immediate mandibular reconstruction with a fibular free flap, and to analyse the association between QoL and their sociocultural and medical characteristics. PURPOSE: This article reports on the incidence and outcome of inadvertent perforations of mucosa and skin during the reconstruction of segmental defects of the mandible using cancellous cellular bone.
