OBJECTIVES: Low saphenous vein graft (SVG) patency has become the bottleneck in surgical revascularization. This study aimed to identify the predictors of early vein graft failure (VGF) after off-pump coronary bypass grafting (OPCAB).
METHODS: A total of 233 patients who had OPCAB were postoperatively evaluated by coronary computed tomography angiography. Logistic regression analyses were performed to detect the predictors of early VGF (FitzGibbon-B/O) at both the patient and the graft level.

A dynamic model, built and tested on thromboelastogram (TEG) data, was used to generate a virtual library of over 160,000 simulated RapidTEGs. We conducted this study to ascertain the usefulness of coagulation studies and blood bank utilization in the patient with symptomatic placenta previa. During a 2-year interval, 97 patients with uterine bleeding due to placenta previa diagnosed > or = 24 weeks' gestation were evaluated. The following studies were routinely obtained: complete blood count including platelet count, fibrinogen, prothrombin time, and a Kleihauer-Betke test. Bronchiolar-pleural fistulas are a frequent complication of thoracic surgery. Current treatment strategies and their invasiveness are quiet different, but often surgeons decide for a new surgical intervention and definitive closure of the breach. We report the case of a bronchiolar-pleural fistula in a 75 years old man with important co-morbidities that we treated with instillation of platelet-leukocyte rich gel (PLR-G). We discuss actual indications for PLR-G as well as its possible role in thoracic surgery.
