Online group-based internal family systems treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder: Feasibility and acceptability of the program for alleviating and resolving trauma and stress.

OBJECTIVE: Demand for trauma-focused therapy continues to increase, especially in community mental health care settings where group treatment models can be cost-effective and increase access to care. The Internal Family Systems (IFS) model for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may offer an effective therapeutic approach. The purpose of this proof-of-concept study was to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of a novel, trauma-focused, group-based treatment approach and investigate potential mechanisms of action. METHOD: Study participants completed the Program for Alleviating and Reso

Predictors of Sexually Transmitted Infection Positivity Among Substance-Using Native American Adults.

BACKGROUND: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a public health crisis with Native Americans suffering a high burden of disease. Studies across gender and racial/ethnic groups have found varying risk factors associated with STI positivity. Understanding how risk factors are associated with STI positivity can help design interventions for those most at risk. METHODS: Participants were Native American binge substance using adults enrolled in a randomized controlled trial evaluating a brief intervention to increase STI screening and reduce sexual risk-taking behaviors. Participants comple

Exploratory analysis of a Phase I cardiac rehabilitation pathway on anxiety and autonomy in patients undergoing PCI: a narrative nursing and transactional stress-coping perspective.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: This exploratory secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial - originally powered for medication adherence - investigated associations of a nurse-led Phase I cardiac rehabilitation pathway, integrated with narrative nursing, with anxiety and autonomy following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). All psychological analyses are exploratory and intended for hypothesis generation, not causal inference. Findings were interpreted within the transactional model of stress and coping, complemented by narrative nursing theory, focusing on how narrative engagement may h

Digital Media Literacy Group for Adolescents in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry: Prospective Multicenter Single-Arm Feasibility Study.

BACKGROUND: Digital media literacy (DML) may help adolescents to handle online risks, misinformation, digital violence, and problematic media use more reflectively. However, structured interventions for adolescents in child and adolescent psychiatry (CAP), particularly in inpatient and day-treatment settings, remain scarce. OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the feasibility, acceptability, and perceived usefulness of a manualized DML group for adolescents in CAP and explored preliminary changes in digital self-efficacy and critical media literacy (CML). METHODS: A prospective single-arm feasibi

Surviving to Thriving: A Grounded Theory of Post-Diagnostic Identity Reconstruction in Midlife and Older Autistic Adults.

This study explored how midlife and older autistic adults make sense of receiving an autism diagnosis later in life and how this shapes post-diagnostic identity reconstruction. Although rising numbers of adults are diagnosed in later life, little is known about how they interpret this experience or the factors shaping post-diagnostic adjustment. Constructivist grounded theory was used to examine experiences among 14 autistic midlife and older adults aged 50 to 73. Seventeen semi-structured interviews were analysed using iterative coding and constant comparison. An autistic advisory group suppo

Self-Monitoring Using Continuous Glucose Monitors with Real-Time Feedback Improves Exercise Adherence in Individuals with Impaired Blood Glucose: A Pilot Study.

BACKGROUND: Exercise helps individuals with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes (T2D) manage their blood glucose (BG); however, exercise adherence in this population is dismal. In this pilot study we tested the efficacy of a self-monitoring group-based intervention using continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) at increasing exercise adherence in individuals with impaired BG. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirteen participants with prediabetes or T2D were randomized to an 8-week standard care exercise program (CON condition) (n = 7) or self-monitoring exercise intervention (SM condition) (n = 6). Rationale and design of the Self-TI Study protocol: a cross-sectional human papillomavirus self-testing pilot study among transgender adults in England.

INTRODUCTION: Persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) is the causal agent of several cancers including cervical, anal and oropharyngeal cancer. Transgender men and transmasculine non-binary (TMNB) people with a cervix are much less likely to undergo cervical cancer screening than cisgender women. Transgender women and transfeminine non-binary (TWNB) people assigned male at birth may be at increased risk of HPV. Both TMNB and TWNB people face many barriers to HPV testing including medical mistrust due to stigma and discrimination. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The Self-TI Study

Treating Chronic Pain by Modulating Phenomenological and Psychophysiological Indices of Self-Transcendence: Single-Blind Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial Protocol.

BACKGROUND: Chronic musculoskeletal pain (CMP) imposes a significant psychological, physical, and emotional burden on millions of adults in the United States. A challenge in treating CMP is its tendency to become enmeshed with a person's sense of self. Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) offer a promising approach to help patients disentangle pain from their sense of self. However, rigorous research is needed to determine which styles of mindfulness practice most effectively promote self-transcendence, a candidate mechanism for durable pain relief. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate wh

A cluster randomized trial of adding peer specialists to intensive case management teams in the Veterans Health Administration.

Use of peer specialists (PSs)--individuals with serious mental illness who use their experiences to help others with serious mental illness--is increasing. However, their impact on patient outcomes has not been demonstrated definitively. This cluster randomized, controlled trial within the Veterans Health Administration compared patients served by three intensive case management teams that each deployed two PSs for 1 year, to the patients of three similar teams without PSs (Usual Care). All patients (PS group = 149, Usual Care = 133) had substantial psychiatric inpatient histories and a primar
