A study was made in twenty inpatients of the "Hospital das Clínicas" of the "Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo" in order to compare the short-term activities of the Brazilian made imidphtalic glutamic acid and of the triancinolone in the therapy of the hansenic reaction of the Virchowian hanseniasis (in the erythema nodosum and in the erythema multiform syndromes as well). In this research it was observed that the therapeutic activities of both drugs present a perfect and undeniable equivalence and that their use have reduced the period of hospitalization to 8,3 days per each

The Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) is a severe variant of erythema multiforme (EM) that occasionally can rise to systemic upset and possibly compromise life. In this report, we described important oral and dermatologic aspects of a case of SJS triggered by Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection is sometimes followed by systemic reactions such as erythema multiforme major/Stevens-Johnsons syndrome. In the described case, a 30 year-old man developed severe inflammation of the oral mucous membranes following respiratory infection with Mycoplasma pneumoniae. There was also conjunctivitis and diarrhoea, and a target-like eruption was seen on the penis, but apart from slight perioral erythema and periorbital swelling, no further skin involvement was seen. The patient was treated with macrolide antibiotics for 14 days and gradually recovered.

Using the paper-radioimmunosorbens test (PRIST) normal values were obtained from 200 non-allergic children. The IgE level was aged-dependent, in part with significant differences between various age groups. These normal values were compared with those in children with seborrhoeic dermitis, constitutional neurodermatitis, parasitoses, urticaria, Quincke oedema, Schönlein-Henoch purpura, pityriasis rosea, multiform exudative erythema, erythema nodosum and infantile papular acrodermatitis. Half-life of IgE in neonates was 16.2 hours.

Rowell syndrome is a rare disease consisting of erythema multiforme-like lesions associated with lupus erythematosus. The syndrome occurs mostly in middle-aged women. The authors describe the syndrome in a 15-year-old boy who responded well to systemic steroids and hydroxychloroquine.

The present paper gives a review of the data published in Poland concerning side effects of drugs. The most numerous observations concern antibiotics (particularly penicillin), sulfonamides, salicylates and antitetanic serum. The most frequent complications were: shock, urticaria, erythema multiforme and exanthema maculopapulosum.
