Inguinal hernia repair can be performed via either an open or laparoscopic technique. Use of a mesh to repair the abdominal wall defect is now common practice, leading to a reduction in hernia recurrence but also associated with a number of complications. We report the unusual case of an 11-year-old girl who suffered a large haemothorax and lacerated left hemidiaphragm because of a costal osteochondroma arising from the left sixth rib near the costochondral junction. The ruptured quadriceps tendon was repaired. This is the first description of a quadriceps tendon rupture associated with synovial chondromatosis.

OBJECTIVE: To seek a simple, safe and effective method for the instant repair of soft-tissue defects after excision of superficial tumor, chronic ulcer and scar constructure as well as injury.
METHODS: From August 1993 to October 1997, according to the location and size of the lesion, adjacent single or double reverse tongue-shaped skin flaps were designed to repair the defects of head, face, limb and shoulder in 31 cases, and the donor sites were closed directly.
RESULTS: The wounds were healed by first intention and the skin flaps were all survived postoperatively.

BACKGROUND: A keloid is a benign tumor that contains excess collagen, primarily type I collagen. A common therapy is intralesional injection of a glucocorticosteroid, such as triamcinolone acetonide (TA). BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of detecting bile duct injuries using laparoscopic intraoperative ultrasound (LIOU).
METHODS: Fifty bile duct injuries were created using laparoscopic techniques in ten farmer pigs. The lesions created were: (1) partial occlusion, (2) complete occlusion (1 clip), (3) complete occlusion (2 clips), (4) transection between clips, (5) excision between clips.
