Four cases of hemifacial microsomia with unilateral anophthalmia are presented and various nosologic problems in the branchial arch dysplasias are discussed. Hemifacial microsomia with unilateral anophthalmia may or may not represent a formal genesis syndrome and nosologic entity different from other types of hemifacial microsomia. The disorder is not in reality a branchial arch dysplasia, but rather a complex dysmorphogenetic syndrome.

The sensitive transitional skin of the lips is a favored site for primary skin diseases, especially eczematous dermatitis. An inflammatory condition of the lips, eg chapped lips (cheilitis sicca) in atopic eczema, may be the only manifestation of a skin disease or appear as part of a generalized dermatosis. Inflammatory changes to the lips also occur in the context of systemic disorders such as lupus erythematosus or in allergic diseases. This article presents the most frequent and the most important forms of inflammatory cheilitis.

OBJECTIVE: Patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) have an increased risk of developing non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), particularly parotid gland mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas. Presence of germinal centres (GCs) in labial gland biopsies has been suggested as predictive factor for NHL. BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to assess the usefulness, safety, and efficacy of intra-arterial (IA) infusion chemotherapy for patients with locally advanced oral commissure cancer.
METHODS: Twenty-one patients with stages III and IV squamous cell carcinoma involving the mouth angle were recruited. OBJECTIVES: To determine the frequency and spectrum of oral and maxillofacial lesions biopsied in a hospital population in the northern region of Portugal.
METHODS: We conducted descriptive analyses of pathology reports from biopsies of oral and maxillofacial lesions performed between 1990 and 2006, in Oporto Hospital Center. Information on gender and age of patient, location of the lesions and the histopathological diagnosis were analysed.

BACKGROUND: Reconstruction of isolated nasal lining defects can be extraordinarily daunting. This report defines the uniqueness of the surgical challenges inherent to reconstruction of the nasal lining and overviews the authors' approach to management.
METHODS: A retrospective review was performed of 11 consecutive patients presenting for reconstruction of the nasal lining alone during the period from October of 1996 through March of 2003. There were four men and seven women with an average age of 49.2 years. The average follow-up was 4.2 years.

This study describes a new microvascular flap combination from the medial femur and ear to reconstruct the nose after subtotal resection and presents the first clinical results. In four patients a squamous cell carcinoma of the nose was registered.
