Arthroscopic reduction and screw fixation of acetabular fractures have not been reported. In this case report, arthroscopic treatment for acetabular fracture is reported for two patients. A 49-year-old man diagnosed with acetabular posterior wall fracture was treated by arthroscopic reduction and fixation using two screws. A 20-year-old woman who diagnosed with anterior column fracture was fixed using a screw using the arthroscopic technique prior to open reduction and internal fixation in the iliac bone fracture. Arthroscopic reduction and fixation in some case of acetabular fracture could be

RATIONALE: Lisfranc injuries are a dislocation of the metatarsal bones from the tarsal bone. Although closed reduction is possible in most cases of Lisfranc injury when attempted in the early stage, there are some rare cases for which open reduction is required. Herein we report a case of irreducible Lisfranc injury in a 34-year-old man who presented to our institution with painful swelling.
PATIENT CONCERNS: We report a 34-year-old man presented to our institution with painful swelling after a fall from 1.0 m height.
DIAGNOSES: We diagnosed it as irreducible Lisfranc injury by tibialis ante

Anatomic reduction of femoral neck fractures is difficult to obtain in a closed fashion. Open reduction provides for direct and controlled manipulation of fracture fragments. This can be accomplished via multiple approaches. The anterolateral, or Watson-Jones, approach or Smith-Petersen, or direct anterior, approach are the two most frequently used. Percutaneous techniques have also been described, though they lack the visual confirmation of reduction of a traditional open approach. These can be performed using a fracture table or with a free leg on a radiolucent table in either supine or late

The central fracture dislocation of hip involves displacement of medial wall and superior weight bearing dome of acetabulum. The management of this type of fracture is to be planned after meticulous clinical and radiological planning of the personality of fracture along with status of the patient. Ideally displaced fracture should be treated by anatomic reduction, stable internal fixation and early non-weight bearing exercises. But considering the complications of open reduction and internal fixation we must take into account the "risk benefit equation" ie, to measure the benefit gained agains

Reports of irreducible patellar dislocations are exceedingly sparse throughout the literature. Obvious radiographic or physical exam findings including fracture or inversion of the patella are often present to explain the block to reduction. Not described previously in the literature is the instance of an irreducible patella dislocation in the setting of innocuous appearing injury imaging. We present a case of a healthy thirty-two-year-old female who sustained an irreducible lateral patella dislocation while participating in a dance aerobics class. Closed means of reduction were unsuccessful,

AIMS: Open tibial fractures are limb-threatening injuries. While limb loss is rare in children, deep infection and nonunion rates of up to 15% and 8% are reported, respectively. We manage these injuries in a similar manner to those in adults, with a combined orthoplastic approach, often involving the use of vascularised free flaps. We report the orthopaedic and plastic surgical outcomes of a consecutive series of patients over a five-year period, which includes the largest cohort of free flaps for trauma in children to date.
METHODS: Data were extracted from medical records and databases for

The present study aimed to explore the influence of ulnar bow on the surgical treatment of Bado type I missed Monteggia fracture in children. A retrospective review of 28 patients was conducted between November 2010 and June 2020. All patients were treated with open reduction of the radial head and ulnar opening wedge osteotomy without annular ligament reconstruction. Four months (range 1-12 months) was the mean interval between injury onset and surgery. The average age of patients at the time of surgery was 6.1 years old (range 2-10 years old). The maximum ulnar bow (MUB) and MUB position (P-

Distal radius repair is a common orthopedic surgery often performed at outpatient surgical centers. To date, little is known regarding optimal pain control in this setting. In this study, the authors evaluated patients who underwent distal radius open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) in an outpatient surgery center setting. Comparisons between 2 surgical groups, peripheral nerve block without general anesthesia vs general anesthesia only, were recorded in terms of postoperative length of stay (LOS) in phase I, total LOS, and patient-reported pain level at discharge. The authors identifie

In every child who has a fracture, neurologic examination is essential at initial assessment so that early diagnosis of nerve injury can be made. Electrodiagnostic studies may be helpful in diagnosis when the examination is equivocal and in follow-up to look for signs of recovery. In a patient who has neurologic deficits associated with a fracture, nerve exploration should be considered for open fractures, fractures that require open reduction, and palsies that develop after fracture reduction. For closed fractures associated with nerve palsy at the time of initial injury, observation and seri

INTRODUCTION: This is a report of 2 consecutive cases of the Galeazzi-equivalent fracture in children.
CLINICAL PICTURE: In both cases, the mechanism of injury was falls onto the outstretched hand. Radiographs showed fracture of the radius with separation of the distal ulnar physis.
TREATMENT: Initial treatment by closed manipulation failed; hence, open reduction and internal fixation was required. The cause of failure of closed manipulation in both cases was interposition of soft tissue into the ulnar fracture site.
OUTCOME: Both cases showed good functional outcome after open reduction an

BACKGROUND: The differences in the clinical and functional outcomes of closed reduction and percutaneous pin fixation and open reduction with internal fixation (ORIF) using plate and screws have been systematically synthesized by one meta-analysis. With newer studies being published, an effort to update the earlier meta-analysis is necessary.
METHODS: Comprehensive searches were done systematically through PubMed, Scopus, CENTRAL (Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials), and Google scholar databases. Randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental studies, prospective comparative non

Background. Supracondylar humeral fractures are the most frequent fractures of the elbow in children. Gartland type III fractures require a surgical treatment. The preferred management is closed reduction and percutaneous pinning with K-wires. Methods. We have treated 15 patients (mean age 6,5 years) with Gartland type III fractures. In 14 patients the percutaneous reduction with K-wires was possible but in 1 case the open reduction was necessary due to the irreducibility of the fracture. In all cases a cycle of rehabilitation was performed. Results. All patients have been evaluated using Flyn

OBJECTIVE: Stable reduction of pediatric fractures to the accepted position. Prevention of recurrent dislocation or loss of reduction to avoid invasive surgery.
INDICATIONS: Pediatric fractures of the upper and lower extremities.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Joint fractures, comminuted fractures, open fractures.
TECHNIQUE: A comfortable environment for the child as well as sufficient pain management is of highest importance for successful treatment. Depending on the location of fracture or fracture pattern, indirect reduction (e.g. by cuff and collar), or direct manual reduction is applied with or wi

Traumatic bilateral hip dislocation is a rare phenomenon. Simultaneous traumatic asymmetrical bilateral hip dislocation is even more unusual. There is no report in the literature regarding the mechanism of injury in tramcar squeezing. A 49-year-old male who had a serious tramcar accident and developed asymmetric bilateral hip dislocations (left posterior, right anterior) combined with fracture of left acetabulum and multiple injuries was admitted. Right hip dislocation was treated with manual reduction. Left hip dislocation, fracture of acetabulum and bilateral pubis, and open wound of left th

BACKGROUND: Carpometacarpal joint fracture dislocation of the second to fifth finger is a rare hand injury associated with high energy trauma. Due to severe swelling and overlapping of bones on the radiograph of wrist-hand, dislocations are missed. We reported a series of six patients with rare carpometacarpal joint fracture dislocation treated with open reduction.
METHODS: We retrospectively studied six cases of carpometacarpal joint fracture dislocation. All patients were treated with open reduction and internal fixation with Kirschner wire. Functional assessment was done with Quick Disabil

Fracture of the talus is usually the result of a high-energy trauma and can present as an open fracture. This is a case report of an 18-year-old male with an open dislocated fracture of the neck of the talus, and the primary treatment consisted of: administration of antibiotics, tetanus prophylaxis, debridement and wound irrigation, reduction of fracture, immobilisation in external fixation and wound closure. Later, the patient had osteosynthesis of the fracture due to nonunion.

Background Numerous classifications exist for intertrochanteric (IT) fractures, commonly focused on stability. However, the currently utilized Arbeitsgemeinschaft Osteosynthesefragen and Orthopaedic Trauma Association (AO/OTA) classification has limitations in identifying irreducible fractures. This study aims to answer the following questions: does fracture stability imply irreducibility; which fracture fragments complicate reduction; and which reduction techniques should be employed? Materials and methods Eligibility criteria included fractures in adult long bones without pathological fractu

Four cases of pisiform fracture are presented. In one case the largest fragment of the pisiform bone with the articular surface was dislocated. After open reduction, osteosynthesis with K-wires was performed. Two patients had an isolated fracture without fragment dislocation. They had their lower arms immobilized with a plaster of Paris cast for 4 weeks. In the fourth case the fracture of the pisiform bone was associated with an intraarticular distal radial fracture and wrist dislocation. The typical traumatic cause of pisiform fracture is a fall onto the outstretched hand. Immobilization for
