Optimization of nursing strategies for semaglutide treatment in overweight type 2 diabetes based on gene polymorphism.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of a gene polymorphism-based individualized nursing strategy on the efficacy of semaglutide in overweight type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients and to assess its role in mitigating genotype-driven outcome disparities. METHODS: Eighty-three overweight T2DM patients initiating semaglutide were enrolled. The TCF7L2 rs7903146 polymorphism was detected via PCR-RFLP. Patients were stratified into a genetically advantageous group (Group A, CC genotype, n=49) and a non-advantageous group (Group B, CT/TT genotypes, n=34). Both groups received standard semaglutide therapy an…

Cardiac rehabilitation in overweight and obese patients: Challenges, strategies, and the role of emerging anti-obesity therapies.

Overweight and obesity are highly prevalent among patients with cardiovascular disease and are associated with reduced functional capacity, increased cardiometabolic risk, and worse clinical outcomes. Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is a cornerstone of secondary prevention, yet its implementation and optimization in patients with obesity remain challenging. This review summarizes current evidence on the role and effectiveness of CR in overweight and obese individuals, focusing on clinical outcomes, participation barriers, tailored intervention strategies, and the emerging role of anti-obesity phar…

Overweight and Obesity Are Associated with Lower Renal Blood Flow in Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease.

INTRODUCTION: We have previously reported that overweight and obesity are independently associated with more rapid disease progression in adults with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). In this study, we perform a cross-sectional analysis to evaluate whether overweight and obesity are also associated with renal blood flow (RBF) in this patient population. METHODS: A total of 134 non-diabetic adults with ADPKD and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≥60 mL/min/1.73 m2 who participated in a randomized controlled trial of pravastatin therapy were categorized as normal w…

Common features in the gut microbiota of underweight and overweight individuals and patients with Parkinson's disease - a mini-review.

This study explores the complex relationship between gut microbiota composition, body weight, and Parkinson’s disease (PD). Recognizing that microbiota profiles vary across Body Mass Index (BMI) categories: underweight, normal weight, and overweight, here we investigate how these differences may correlate with PD pathogenesis and the severity of the disease. The findings highlight common dysbiotic features, such as increased pro-inflammatory bacteria, observed in both PD and obesity, suggesting the involvement of shared inflammatory pathways in disease development. Conversely, all three groups…
