BACKGROUND: To study the degree of adhesion, efficacy, and tolerance of therapeutic guidelines advocated by the National Consensus on tuberculosis.
METHODS: A prospective study of a cohort of 84 patients receiving a diagnosis of tuberculosis in a Basic General Health Area between 1-3-1993 and 28-2-1994 treated with the regimen recommended by the National Council. The patients were evaluated clinically and microbiologically during the treatment and during twelve months follow-up.

METHOD: We prospectively studied patients with pulmonary TB, with or without HIV-1 co-infection, from December 1, 2007 to December 1, 2008. Two groups of patients naive for TB and antiretroviral treatment (group A: 96 co-infected TB/HIV and group B: 171 TB infected but HIV negative) were selected randomly. We identified 36 rifampin-resistant Mycobacterium kansasii isolates, including 17 (4%) of 464 isolates recovered in Texas between 1989 and 1992. Familial renal hypouricemia with exercise-induced acute renal failure (ARF) is rare. A 45-year-old man presented with abdominal pain, vomiting, and oliguria after severe exercise. The diagnosis was ARF based on high serum creatinine (SCr) level (5.1 mg/dL [451 micromol/L]). Neurologic damage is usual after central nervous system (CSN) tuberculosis recovery. Treatment is long, difficult and prone to complications. Many factors are enrolled as prognostic determinants.
