Using a positron autoradiography technique, dynamic changes in the cerebral glucose metabolic rate (CMRglc) induced by hypoxia/reoxygenation were investigated in living brain slices. The regulation of acetylcholine (ACh) release by the different subtypes of muscarinic (M) receptors in the hippocampus of freely-moving Fischer and Sprague-Dawley rats, was investigated. BACKGROUND: Experimental studies of haemorrhagic shock have documented a superior haemodynamic response and a better outcome in female animals as compared with male controls.
