Expert consensus on robotic radiosurgery system for hepatocellular carcinoma.

Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) is increasingly administered in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treatment. The CyberKnife (CK) system is the most advanced robotic radiosurgery system for delivering SABR. Using three-dimensional multi-angle irradiation, a unique fiducial marker, and a synchronous respiratory tracking system, the off-target caused by respiratory movement is maximally avoided, which achieves favorable dose conformation, and the dose rapidly drops off in the surrounding normal tissue. In a real sense, CK achieves accurate positioning, planning, and irritation. The Chinese

Autonomous robotic intraocular surgery for targeted retinal injections.

Intraocular surgery is challenged by restricted environmental perception and difficulties in instrument depth estimation. The advent of autonomous intraocular surgery represents a milestone in medical technology, given that it can enhance surgical consistency that improves patient safety, shorten surgeon training periods so that more patients can undergo surgery, reduce dependency on human resources, and enable surgeries in remote or extreme environments. In this study, an autonomous robotic system for intraocular surgery (ARISE) was developed, achieving targeted retinal injections throughout

Factors Influencing Robotic Surgery Adoption in the United States.

INTRODUCTION: Robotic surgery has expanded rapidly in the United States despite high financial commitments of a robotic surgery program. Factors that drive uneven robotic surgery adoption has not been adequately explored at the populational level. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed using the National Cancer Database to evaluate facility-level adoption of robotic colorectal surgery. Facilities were stratified by the timing of the first robotic colorectal case into adoption quartiles (1st: earliest to 4th: latest) and nonadopters. A multivariable ordinal logistic regression model w

Learning realistic lip motions for humanoid face robots.

Lip motion represents outsized importance in human communication, capturing nearly half of our visual attention during conversation. Yet anthropomorphic robots often fail to achieve lip-audio synchronization, resulting in clumsy and lifeless lip behaviors. Two fundamental barriers underlay this challenge. First, robotic lips typically lack the mechanical complexity required to reproduce nuanced human mouth movements; second, existing synchronization methods depend on manually predefined movements and rules, restricting adaptability and realism. Here, we present a humanoid robot face designed t

Disorder and Homeostasis in ANIBOT A Biologically-Inspired Animal Robot.

The effects of external perturbations (or disorder) in the Hopf bifurcations of a central pattern generator (CPG) network of neurons that serves as a model for the circuit realization of ANIBOT-a biologically-inspired animal robot with four legs-are studied, analytically and computationally, from the standpoint of homeostasis. In particular, we employ recent developments in the mathematical description of homeostasis, e.g., input-output functions, to explore the CPG response to perturbations of the network connectivity, the internal dynamics of the neurons, and electronic noise as it arises in

A Shape and Stiffness Adjustable Laryngoscope for Transoral Robotic Surgery.

OBJECTIVE: Laryngoscopes are essential tools in transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for visualizing and accessing the larynx. However, the rigidity and non-adjustable design of conventional laryngoscopes limit their ability to reach certain lesion areas, increasing patient invasiveness. This study presents a novel shape and stiffness adjustable laryngoscope to address these challenges. METHODS: The proposed laryngoscope features a spring-tendon layout that allows for stable bending through tendon actuation by a single motor. A lockable mechanism enhances stiffness, enabling the instrument to be

Robotic Caval Replacement for Leiomyosarcoma of the Inferior Vena Cava.

BACKGROUND: Primary leiomyosarcoma of the inferior vena cava (IVC) is a rare malignant smooth muscle tumor, representing fewer than 1 in 100,000 adult cancers and less than 0.5% of soft tissue sarcomas. Despite its rarity, it is the most common primary tumor of the IVC and typically aff ects women in their 50s to 60s. Clinical presentation is often silent or nonspecific, resulting in late diagnosis and poor long-term outcomes. Surgical resection remains the only potentially curative treatment, and IVC reconstruction may be necessary depending on tumor location and extent. METHODS: We present

Underwater Robot Object Detection Algorithm Based on YOLOv11.

Despite the ocean's vast energy reserves and extensive coverage of Earth's surface, the complexity of the underwater environment has hindered effective target recognition. To mitigate the feature degradation caused by underwater scattering, wavelength-dependent absorption, and non-uniform illumination, this study proposes a degradation-aware YOLOv11s-based detection framework for underwater robotic object detection. The framework enhances detection robustness by improving feature reconstruction, channel-spatial attention, and bounding-box regression in a unified architecture. First, to address
