Nanometer sized SnS2 particles were synthesised by solid state reaction between tin chloride and thiourea in air at 150-350°C. The structural, morphological and optical properties were characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR, FT-Raman, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), photoluminescence (PL) and UV-Vis spectra. In this paper, we demonstrate that ZnxCd1-xSe nanomultipods can be synthesized via a facile and nontoxic solution-based method. Interesting aspects of composition, morphology and optical properties were deeply explored. The value of Zn/(Zn+Cd) could be altered across the entire range from 0.08 to 0.86 by varying the ratio of cation precursor contents. A series of novel, highly sensitive, and selective azo-based anion sensors 1-3 have been designed and synthesized from the condensation reaction between 4-amino azo benzene and three different aldehydes. Apigenin and luteolin were studied for the affinities for human serum albumin (HSA) in the presence and absence of three CdTe QDs with different sizes. The fluorescence intensities of HSA decreased remarkably with increasing concentration of QDs. Apigenin and luteolin resulted in obvious blue-shifts of the lambda(em) of HSA from 340 nm to 330 nm and 320 nm. The NMR and fluorescence quenching of benzene, chlorobenzene and methoxybenzene in acetonitril and 2-propanol solvents have been carried out with a view to understand the quenching mechanisms. The biological toxicity of CdTe quantum dots (QDs) to bovine serum albumin (BSA) has been investigated mainly by fluorescence spectra, UV-vis absorption spectra and circular dichroism (CD) under simulative physiological conditions. In this paper, we employ two peroxidases (horseradish peroxidase, HRP and cytochrome c peroxidase, CcP) to demonstrate their ability to retain their redox and biological functions after their immobilisation on mesoporous TiO(2) and SnO(2) electrodes.
