BACKGROUND: Thoracic duct cysts are extremely rare mediastinal tumors. We report a case of a thoracic duct cyst extending from the caudal as … ct cyst was made based on a high triglyceride level of 1310 mg/dL on examination of the milky-white cyst fluid. The patient's postoperative course was uneventful, and he was discharged 4 days postoperatively. A CT scan performed 13 months after surgery showed no recurrence.
CONCLUSIONS: A rare thoracic duct cyst extending from the mediastinum to the cistern …

The major objective of the present study was to determine whether leakage of ovarian cyst cells occurs when the cysts are punctured inside a container with saline. Other subjectives were to determine the sensitivity and specificity of cytology in the differentiation between malignant and benign cysts by comparing cytology data with histology data, and also to determine whether ultrasound can provide consistent evidence for predicting whether the cyst is benign or malignant, thus permitting the selection of patients with benign cysts for puncture rather than surgical exeresis. A cytologic study

PURPOSE: Craniopharyngiomas (CP) present with both solid and cystic structures in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies. Contrary to MRI appearance, components described as cysts are not infrequently found as non-fluent structures during surgery. This study aims to address the discrepancy between radiology and surgery regarding the nature of these lesions and to evaluate them for their preoperative predictability.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Preoperative MRI images of 24 CP patients were analyzed. The cystic components of the tumors were assessed in terms of quantitative and qualitative signal

BACKGROUND: The site of hemorrhage and causative lesions in patients with hematospermia were evaluated using the puncture technique for seminal vesicles and/or müllerian duct cysts under ultrasound guidance.
METHODS: Twenty-one patients aged 26-75 years (mean, 49.8 years) underwent transperineal needle aspiration of the seminal vesicles and/or müllerian duct cysts guided by transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS).
RESULTS: Dark reddish seminal vesicle fluid was aspirated and the site of bleeding was considered to be the seminal vesicles in 11 patients (52%) (group A). In group A, abnormalities of

Primary cilia are hypothesized to act as a mechanical sensor to detect renal tubular fluid flow. Anomalous structure of primary cilia and/or impairment of increases in intracellular Ca2+ concentration in response to fluid flow are thought to result in renal cyst formation in conditional kif3a knockout, Tg737 and pkd1/pkd2 mutant mice. The mutant inv/inv mouse develops multiple renal cysts like kif3a, Tg737 and pkd1/pkd2 mutants. Inv proteins have been shown to be localized in the renal primary cilia, but response of inv/inv cilia to fluid stress has not been examined. In the present study, we

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, multisystemic disease. The characteristic feature is persistent inflammatory synovitis. The knee joint is commonly involved with synovial hypertrophy, chronic effusion, and frequently ligamentous laxity. Pain and swelling behind the knee may be caused by extension of inflamed synovium into the popliteal space (Baker's cyst). Plain radiographs of the knee joint remain the basic radiological procedure, although early in the disease they might not provide significant changes. Sonography sufficiently reveals synovial fluid and Baker cysts, but cannot be recommend

Peritoneal inclusion cystarises when fluid produced by ovary is trapped within peritoneal adhesions. In this article, we describe a case series of patients affected by Crohn's disease, undergoing to magnetic resonance enterography, in whom it was possible not only to monitor the pathological findings of small bowel but also to primarily diagnose the presence of peritoneal inclusion cysts. The current knowledge of peritoneal inclusion cyst concomitant to Crohn's disease is still limited, often leading radiologists to misdiagnose it.

Dentigerous cysts form from accumulation of fluid between reduced enamel epithelium and the crown of an unerupted tooth. They cause several difficulties such as swelling, non-eruption of the involved teeth, and displacement of adjacent teeth, and thus require early detection and prompt treatment. Treatment ranges from marsupialisation to enucleation. Enucleation is rarely used in children compared with marsupialisation. This paper discusses successful use of enucleation for treating a dentigerous cyst and explains the need for such a radical procedure.

Simple and aneurysmal bone cysts are benign lytic bone lesions, usually encountered in children and adolescents. Simple bone cyst is a cystic, fluid-filled lesion, which may be unicameral (UBC) or partially separated. UBC can involve all bones, but usually the long bone metaphysis and otherwise primarily the proximal humerus and proximal femur. The classic aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is an expansive and hemorrhagic tumor, usually showing characteristic translocation. About 30% of ABCs are secondary, without translocation; they occur in reaction to another, usually benign, bone lesion. ABCs are

Neurocysticercosis is a common disease in underdeveloped countries. Its diagnosis is based on clinical, imaging (tomography or magnetic resonance), epidemiological, and laboratory data. Several methods based on the detection of antibodies against cysticerci in cerebrospinal fluid or serum have been tested. Among them, an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) based on the use of a crude parasite antigen has been used by the laboratory network of cysticercosis in Mexico, which has given support to clinicians for up to 7 years. Introduction Choledochal cyst is a premalignant condition and surgical excision with biliary enteric anastomosis is the standard of care. Surgical treatment in adults may be difficult due to associated biliary pathology and high incidence of postoperative complications is reported. Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) is a rare early complication following choledochal cyst excision. Material and Methods A 23-year-old male patient was operated for a Todani type IV-A choledochal cyst with anomalous pancreaticobiliary junction. Cyst excision with hepaticojejunostomy was performed. Interhemispheric cysts are congenital, and usually present symptoms during childhood. However, they are occasionally detected in adults. These cystic lesions are sometimes associated with defects of the corpus callosum. Although defects of the corpus callosum by themselves do not present clinical symptoms, they are often accompanied by other brain malformations. A man in his late 60s was found dead at the scene of a fire. At autopsy, his brain weighed 1223 g and had a large interhemispheric cyst, measuring 5.5 × 4.5 × 4.0 cm in size. The cyst contained clear fluid but was not connected to the

Masses due to cystic lesions of the breast are extremely common findings on mammography, ultrasonography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Although many of these lesions can be dismissed as benign simple cysts, requiring intervention only for symptomatic relief, complex cystic and solid masses require biopsy. Perhaps, the most challenging are complicated cysts, that is, cysts with internal debris. When the debris is mobile or a fluid-debris level is seen, complicated cysts can be dismissed as benign findings. As an isolated finding, homogeneous complicated cysts can be classified as probably be

We report herein a case of cholangiocarcinoma with large cystic lesions. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated large cysts in segment IV and the paracaval portion of the caudate lobe, and a solid tumor in the anterior segment of the right lobe of the liver which was contiguous to the cyst in the paracaval portion of the caudate lobe. The large cysts were diagnostically misleading and a liver abscess was suspected. Thus, percutaneous transhepatic drainage of the cyst was performed. The fluid in the cyst was negative bacteriologically, but malignant cells were detected. A CT scan done 2 weeks af

An 86-year-old woman presented with abdominal pain and ascites. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed ascites, thickening of the greater omentum, mild peritoneal thickening, and a low-density tylosis-like cyst in the pelvic peritoneum. To achieve a definitive diagnosis, endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) of the ascitic fluid and peritoneal lesions was performed. Histopathological analysis of aspirated fluid and peritoneal biopsy specimens confirmed the diagnosis of peritoneal pseudomyxoma (PMP). In this case, EUS-FNA played a crucial role in accurately diagn

A 37-year-old woman who was six months postpartum presented with a painless lump in her left breast for three months. Mammograms showed a mixed fat and soft density mass on the craniocaudal and mediolateral views. A fat-fluid level was seen within the mass, typical of a galactocoele. Needle aspiration yielded milky fluid. The differential diagnosis of breast masses presenting in women with pregnancy or lactation is briefly discussed. The other causes of fat containing breast masses, such as oil cyst, hamartoma, lipoma and intramammary lymph nodes, are illustrated with additional examples.

Hemangioma is an uncommon bone neoplasm that usually affects the craniofacial bones and spine, accounting for less than 1% of all primary bone tumors. The authors report a case of isolated hemangioma involving the proximal humerus in a 22-year-old man. Radiographically, the lesion was a well-defined osteolytic process with marginal sclerosis. The CT images demonstrated an osteolytic lesion with coarse trabecular pattern and partial cortical breakthrough. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a multilocular and hemorrhagic lesion with fluid-fluid level, that was suggestive of aneurysmal bone cyst.
