The human and animal pathogenic yeast genus Malassezia has received considerable attention in recent years from dermatologists, other clinicians, veterinarians and mycologists. Some points highlighted in this review include recent advances in the technological developments related to detection, identification, and classification of Malassezia species. The clinical association of Malassezia species with a number of mammalian dermatological diseases including dandruff, seborrhoeic dermatitis, pityriasis versicolor, psoriasis, folliculitis and otitis is also discussed.

OBJECTIVE: To report 10 years' experience with ileal ureteric replacement as a last resort in complex reconstruction of the urinary tract.

The effect of UV-light on Pityrosporum yeasts (P.) was studied: P. yeasts cultured from the skin were spread on Dixon plates and irradiated with different UVB-and UVA-light dosages and read after three days, controls were not irradiated. Also P. yeasts, immediately after irradiation, were isolated from the plates and studied with an electron microscope. A case of a 70-year-old man with several dome-shaped tumors with acantholysis was reported. The histopathological findings of these black-brownish colored tumors on the back were compatible with seborrheic keratosis, consisting of basaloid and squamoid cells. Although three cases reported by Tagami et al. (1978) and Uchiyama et al. (1986) showed intraepidermal epithelioma-like tumor nests in the acanthotic lesions, our case was thought to correspond to another variant of seborrheic keratosis with acantholysis.
