Eccrine sweat gland anatomy in cockayne syndrome: a possible diagnostic aid.

Cockayne syndrome is an autosomal recessive disease, which includes as major features motor and mental retardation (beginning in the second year), microcephaly, ataxia, retinal degeneration and pigmentation, cataracts, progeroid features, intracranial calcification, hypogonadism, and growth retardation. Many other diseases have some of these features, so that diagnosis of Cockayne syndrome can be difficult, especially in younger children. Eccrine sweat glands were microdissected from autopsy or biopsy specimens from patients with Cockayne syndrome, and mean values for duct length, secretory co

Incontinentia pigmenti achromians as part of a neurocutaneous syndrome: a case report.

A case of incontinentia pigmenti achromians associated with mental retardation, epilepsy, short stature and ocular anomalies was reported. A study of this case together with a review of the 38 cases in the literature revealed that this entity has been associated with central nervous system involvements at a high frequency. It is necessary, therefore, to consider incontinentia pigmenti achromians as a neurocutaneous syndrome from the viewpoint of pediatric neurology.

Effects of mitomycin C on sister chromatid exchange in normal and Bloom's syndrome cells.

Bloom's syndrome lymphocytes, which are characterized by a high incidence of sister chromatid exchanges (SCE: 80.6 per cell), were treated with mitomycin C (MMC) and the effect of the chemical on SCE frequency compared with that in normal cells. Raising the concentration of MMC from 1 X 10(-9) to 1 X 10(-7) g/ml led to about 10-fold increase (61.7 SCE per cell) in the SCE frequency over the base line in normal lymphocytes (6.4 SCE per cell), though chromosome aberrations remained at a relatively low frequency. MMC caused about a two-fold rise in SCE in cells of Bloom's syndrome (128.8 SCE at 1

[Analysis of a child with SPONASTRIME dysplasia due to compound heterozygous variants of TONSL gene].

OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical features and genetic etiology of a child with SPONASTRIME dysplasia (SD). METHODS: A 9-month-old female who had presented at the Linyi People's Hospital in August 2022 for short stature was selected as the study subject. Clinical data of the child were collected, and whole exome sequencing (WES) was carried out. Sanger sequencing was used for validating the candidate variants. RESULTS: The child has manifested short stature, mid-face hypoplasia, joint laxity, internal knee rotation, irregularities in the metaphysis of long bones, and flat and concave lumbar
