Thalidomide is approved for treating erythema nodosum leprosum and multiple myeloma, but it has also emerged as a useful treatment option for many refractory dermatologic disorders. Some of the innovative but off-label uses of thalidomide include aphthous stomatitis, Behçet's disease, lupus erythematosus, prurigo nodularis, sarcoidosis, actinic prurigo, graft-versus-host disease, Langerhans cell histiocytosis, erythema multiforme, lichen planus, Kaposi sarcoma, Jessner lymphocytic infiltrate, uremic pruritus, pyoderma gangrenosum, scleroderma, scleromyxedema, and necrobiosis lipoidica. Anticonvulsant hypersensitivity syndrome (AHS) is a potentially fatal multiorgan drug reaction that presents with various cutaneous eruptions. There is a genetic predisposition to such reactions. We present a young woman with AHS due to carbamazepine that presented as an atypical erythema multiforme with elevated liver enzymes.

Three cases of chlorambucil-related skin eruption in patients with low-grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma are described. Cases were confirmed by exclusion of other drugs, rechallenge, skin testing and histology. One patient died due to florid erythema multiforme. Only two other adequately documented cases are described.

BACKGROUND: Mycoplasma pneumoniae-induced rash and mucositis is a rare, immune-mediated condition characterised by mucosal inflammation with limited cutaneous involvement. It is increasingly recognised as a distinct clinical entity, separate from erythema multiforme and Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
CASE PRESENTATION: A young man presented with fever and cough, followed by red, irritated eyes and painful ulcerations of the lips, oral mucosa and genitals. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing of a nasopharyngeal sample confirmed Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection. Dermatologic examination revealed …

The uneventful response to chemotherapy in leprosy is marked by clinically disturbing episodes encountered in 20-30% of patients and these phenomena are called "reactions". Generally they are classified as reversal reaction (type-1) and erythema nodosum leprosum (type-2). The cutaneous menifestations are: (1) Type-2 reactions in LL, BL types constituting erythema nodosum leprosum, erythema multiforme, erythema necroticans, subcutaneous nodules, lepromatous exacerbation. (2) Type-1 reactions in borderline and tuberculoid leprosy. The other manifestations include: Acute neuritis, lymphadenitis, …

A 31-year-old woman with long-standing amyopathic dermatomyositis developed a maculopapular rash resembling erythema multiforme in some areas, accompanied by lymphadenopathy and malaise. An acute infection with Toxoplasma gondii was found to be the cause of clinical symptoms that mimicked an exacerbation of the underlying condition.

PURPOSE: Erythema multiforme and Stevens-Johnson syndrome have been associated with anticonvulsant medications (AEDs) in patients with brain tumors receiving cranial irradiation. AEDs are also known to cause mild drug rashes. The incidence of these complications has not been well studied among patients with brain tumors. We reviewed the records of patients with brain tumors treated with cranial radiation and AEDs to assess the frequency of both severe and mild skin reactions.
METHODS: Retrospective review of 289 radiotherapy records of consecutively treated patients from 1988 to 1993.

Lichenoid dermatosis is a pattern description of a variety of cutaneous lesions which primarily affect the dermoepidermal junction. Involvement of skin appendages has been restricted to hair follicles in lichen planopilaris and discoid lupus erythematosus. Sweat gland involvement has not been described in the four common members of this group, namely, lichen planus, discoid lupus erythematosus, fixed drug eruptions and erythema multiforme, although structural abnormalities have been reported in graft-versus-host disease. In a detailed morphological study of 59 cases, including lichen planus (1…

The most common adverse effects of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are gastritis, peptic ulceration, and depression of renal function, … ide estimates of the frequency of very rare adverse reactions. The latter include blood dyscrasias, erythema multiforme, hepatitis, and others, such as aseptic meningitis, anaphylaxis, and urticaria. Moreover, some nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs appear to have unique side-effect profiles. Examples include a higher incidence of ulceration and erythema multiforme …
