Modes of action and emerging strategies in next-generation fungicide development against phytopathogenic fungi.

Plant fungal diseases impose significant annual reductions of global crop yield and quality. Despite advances in our understanding of the etiology and molecular mechanisms of plant-fungus interactions, effective management of fungal diseases remains challenging due to climate-driven shifts in pathogen populations, the emergence of fungicide-resistant strains, globalization in agricultural supply chains, and postharvest vulnerabilities. To address these challenges, research in plant pathology has leveraged state-of-the-art technologies, with the development of novel fungicides serving as a majo

Dietary Advice to Support Glycaemic Control and Weight Management in Women with Type 1 Diabetes during Pregnancy and Breastfeeding.

In women with type 1 diabetes, the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes, including congenital anomalies, preeclampsia, preterm delivery, foetal overgrowth and perinatal death is 2-4-fold increased compared to the background population. This review provides the present evidence supporting recommendations for the diet during pregnancy and breastfeeding in women with type 1 diabetes. The amount of carbohydrate consumed in a meal is the main dietary factor affecting the postprandial glucose response. Excessive gestational weight gain is emerging as another important risk factor for foetal overgrowth

Ensuring Integrity of the Medicaid Drug Rebate Program.

The Medicaid Drug Rebate Program (MDRP) is a federal-state partnership program that aims to control prescription drug costs through contractual agreements enabling manufacturers to secure Medicaid coverage for their drugs by paying rebates to state Medicaid agencies. All states participate in MDRP, helping Medicaid beneficiaries obtain affordable access to nearly all Food and Drug Administration-approved outpatient drugs. Although the program has achieved significant cost savings for Medicaid, notable False Claims Act violations in recent years have called into question the program's operation

BACKGROUND: The loss of cardiovascular health (CVH)-a strong predictor of future health-begins early in life and disproportionately affects … nx youth had lower CVH scores than their NHW counterparts, with differences in household income and food security accounting for most of their CVH gap. These findings suggest racial and ethnic disparities in CVH in youth and future CVD risk are one more negative consequence of childhood poverty.

Navigating the divide: inequalities in household experiences of healthcare disruption in Latin American and the Caribbean countries amidst COVID-19.

BACKGROUND: Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) is among the most unequal regions in the world in terms of wealth and household income. Su … gradient where the wealthier a household, the less likely it was to experience disruption of care. Food security, employment, and gender policies should be integral to preparing for and responding to future shocks such as pandemics. Prioritizing the most affected populations, like the elderly during COVID-19, can enhance the health system effectiveness.

Implications of Federal Nutrition Policy Changes for Maternal and Child Health.

Signed into law on July 4, 2025, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) fundamentally changes the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the largest food assistance program in the United States and a key support for maternal and child food and nutrition security. The OBBBA reduces SNAP eligibility, expands work requirements, eliminates nutrition education, prevents future benefit increases, and shifts significant costs to states. Combined, these changes may have a direct negative effect on women and children who rely on SNAP for adequate nutrition and may also reduce their access to

Soilless farming system design impacts the diversity and composition of microbiota.

Controlled environment agriculture (CEA), including soilless farming systems, is expanding to improve food security and resource efficiency. However, little is known about how different soilless farming system designs influence microbial populations that may be relevant to plant health and food safety. This study investigated the effects of soilless system type on microbial load and bacterial community composition in nutrient solution and on bok choy leaves over two growing cycles. Soilless systems, including deep water culture (DWC), Kratky (KR), nutrient film technique (NFT), ebb and flow (E…

Age-related variations in mental health and wellbeing during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic: a multi-country survey analysis.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic substantially impacted mental health. This study explored age-related differences in the mental health and wellbeing of participants during the initial wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: Secondary analyses of data from 21,106 participants collected between July and December 2020 across 152 countries was conducted. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to determine the relationship between the dependent variables and age after accounting for potential confounders. The dependent variables examined were emotional distress, social isolation, sle

Effects of combined application of Se and ammonium fertilizers on the growth and nutritional quality of maize in Hg-polluted soil under two irrigation conditions and its health risk assessment.

The interactive effects of Se (Na2SeO3) and ammonium fertilizers ((NH4)2SO4 and NH4Cl) on the growth and quality of maize (Zea mays L.) in mercury (Hg)-contaminated soil were studied under different water conditions. This study determined how two nutrient sources (Se and NH4+-N) interacted to improve the yield, quality, and safety of maize to ensure food security and quality assurance under the stress of heavy metal Hg. The experiment was conducted under two irrigation conditions: W1 (complete irrigation condition, 60-70% of water-holding capacity) and W2 (restricted irrigation condition, 40-5…

Community-level perceptions of housing services for people with opioid use disorder: a qualitative analysis of community stakeholders in the HEALing communities study.

BACKGROUND: Housing insecurity, or the inability to afford or maintain residence in a safe and quality place, is a barrier to accessing and staying in substance use treatment and/or recovery support services. There is a gap in knowledge in how housing insecurity influences substance use disorder (SUD) prevalence, and the role housing security plays in SUD treatment initiation and retention. The HEALing Communities Study (HCS) is a large multisite trial aiming to reduce overdose risk through the implementation of evidence-based interventions delivered by community coalitions to reduce overdose

Rapid and selective detection of botulinum neurotoxin serotype-A and -B with a single immunochromatographic test strip.

Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNT) are the most potent toxins known. Produced by Clostridium botulinum, BoNTs are classified into seven, antigenically distinct serotypes, designated A-G. The toxin acts to inhibit acetylcholine release, resulting in paralysis and death. Naturally occurring foodborne disease is most often the result of improper canning of foods, while wound botulism, associated with injection drug users, is on the rise. Because of its potency, BoNTs have also been identified as targets for use by bioterrorists. The 'gold standard' of detection of BoNTs is the mouse bioassay, an expens

Evolution of nutritional management of acute malnutrition.

Wasting, kwashiorkor and stunting are not usually due to either protein or energy deficiency. Treatment based upon this concept results in high mortality rates, and failure of treated children to return physiologically to normal. They become relatively obese with insufficient lean tissue. Preventive strategies have also failed. Wasting and stunting are primarily due to deficiency of type II nutrients and kwashiorkor probably due to deficiency of several type I nutrients that confer resistance to oxidative stress. Modern dietary treatments are based upon the F75 formula whilst the child is sick
