We examined 10 common indicators of social isolation and assessed which, if any, are related to subjective well-being among elderly individuals. The quantitative measures (no daily contact and minimal weekly contact), no children, having no children plus being unmarried, and having no children plus living alone, were unrelated to either global happiness or life satisfaction. A case study of the paradoxical treatment of long standing obsessional ruminations about flatulence in a 33-year old female respiratory therapist is described. Self-reported estimates of the frequency and intensity of flatulence were unaffected by a misconception correction procedure that entailed the presentation of scientific data disconfirming the bases of her concerns. Paradoxical instructions to intensify flatus emissions were then employed. These instructions resulted in a rapid elimination of the obsessional ruminations; this improvement was enhanced at 1 yr follow-up.

AIMS: This study explored gender differences in life stressors of children and adolescents who died by suicide. Three main classes of life stressors have been identified by previous research to be significant risk factors for suicide in children and adolescents: interpersonal/relationship problems, family problems, and academic/school problems.

INTRODUCTION: Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is marked by emotional instability, interpersonal dysfunction, and high comorbidity, posing significant treatment challenges. Metacognitive Interpersonal Therapy (MIT) targets core features of BPD, including metacognitive impairments and emotional dysregulation. This study used Latent Transition Analysis to assess changes in BPD symptoms and psychological factors over a 12-month MIT intervention, hypothesizing that MIT will reduce symptom severity and improve emotional regulation, metacognitive abilities, and interpersonal functioning.
