[Colonic perforations after self-expandable metallic stenting: two case reports].

The use of self-expandable metallic stents in colorectal stenoses, both benign and malignant, is a recently born treatment, quickly widespread because of its simplicity and therapeutic efficacy. It is particulary useful, like emergency temporany treatment, in malignant colonic obstruction; in these cases the temporary endoprosthesis positioning allows the intestinal transit and to overcame the emergengy phase. After patient conditions improvement, he can be operated and the endoprosthesis removed within operating specimen. In some particularly serious cases, when only a derivative intervention

Intestinal surgery performed on gynecologic cancer patients.

A retrospective review covering a 9-year period revealed 113 patients who underwent 157 major bowel procedures during 130 operations performed solely by gynecologic oncology surgeons. Forty-eight percent of the operations were done for tumor cytoreduction, and 33% were performed for a bowel obstruction. Other indications included colostomy closure, fistula repair, resection for multiple enterotomies, temporary diversions, repair of perforated bowel, treatment for severe proctosigmoiditis, management of ureteral stricture, treatment for vulvar necrosis, and resection of an incidental small bowe

[Intestinal polyp of the umbilical cord].

The morphology, pathogenesis, complications and differential diagnosis of an intestinal polyp of the umbilical cord are presented. The polyp were detected postnatal on the umbilical cord in an healthy male newborn. The presents of intestinal tissue upon the umbilical cord ist possible about the persistence from remnants of the ductus omphalomesentericus with prolapse and differentiation of the intestinal cells. The ductus omphalomesentericus is a tubular structure, a communication between the developing embryonic gut and the yolk sac, forming during the early embryonic life. Obliteration of th

Enterocutaneous fistula as a long-term complication of jejunostomy tube placement in a dog with hyperadrenocorticism.

BACKGROUND: Jejunostomy tube (JT) feeding is a practical method of delivering enteral nutrition in dogs when oral, oesophageal or gastric feeding is not feasible, particularly in postoperative or critically ill patients with gastric, duodenal, proximal jejunal, or pancreatic disease. Although generally well-tolerated, JT placement is an invasive procedure associated with potential complications, requiring close postoperative monitoring. Certain underlying conditions may further increase the risk of adverse outcomes. Hyperadrenocorticism (HAC), in particular, is associated with impaired wound h

The dilemma of Crohn's disease: long-term follow-up of Crohn's disease of the small intestine.

Seventy-four patients having primary Crohn's disease of the small intestine have had follow-up studies for at least 10 years after initial resection, and the results of treatment are presented. The commonest indication for operative treatment was obstruction, followed by fistula formation, intractability, abscess formation, and free perforation. Disease recurred in 69 per cent of patients in this series, and 55 per cent of this group required fruther operative treatment. It is necessary to have a lengthy follow-up period if we are to appreciate fully the serious nature of the recurrence proble

Complications of posterior sagittal anorectoplasty.

From 1982 to 1985, 23 patients underwent posterior sagittal anorectoplasty procedures: 12 as primary treatment for congenital anorectal malformations, 9 for treatment of fecal incontinence following a prior pull-through procedure, and 2 for treatment of fecal incontinence following trauma. Six patients (26%) developed seven complications specifically related to the procedure. One patient with a cloacal anomaly had partial dehiscence of the sacroperineal incision following total reconstruction. This resulted in retraction of vaginal and anal openings, which, however, have remained separate and

Spontaneous Twin Internal Fistulae: A Rare Complication of Acute Pancreatitis.

Spontaneous internal fistulae (cystocolonic, cystogastric and cystoenteric) have been described as potential complications of severe acute pancreatitis with pseudocyst or walled off necrosis (WON). Ours is possibly the first ever report of double internal fistulae (pancreatico-gastric and pancreatico-colonic) occurring as a spontaneous complication of acute pancreatitis.

Self-expandable metallic stents in the treatment of post-esophagogastrostomy/post-esophagoenterostomy fistula.

Esophageus or gaster resection in patients with malignant disease is still a treatment of choice. It is obvious that each surgical procedure in these patients carries some possibility of complications. Esophageo-gastric or esophageo-jejuno anastomosis has a 4-27% frequency of fistula occurrence. All these result in 65% mortality in cases of poorer prognosis. The aim of this paper is not to present all types of complications but to objectively analyse the usefulness of the covered stent placement in the treatment of anastomotic fistulas. We present six patients who were treated for postoperativ

[Renocolonic fistula complicating vesicorenal reflux and xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis in a 20-month-old child].

A case of vesico-renal reflux with xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis complicated with a renocolic fistula in a 20 months old child is reported. Imaging in this case was crucial for the diagnosis and the work up; it included ASP, renal ultrasound, UIV retrograde cystography and CT. The treatment consisted in a right ureteronephrectomy after fistula's section.

A case of nephrobronchial and colonobronchial fistula presenting as lung abscess.

A nephrobronchial fistula is an uncommon clinical entity and perinephric abscess in the most common etiological lesion. At times, pulmonary symptoms may dominate the clinical picture and the diagnosis of an associated renal lesion may be overlooked. An unusual case of a coexisting nephrobronchial and colonobronchial fistula is reported. The patient had been treated for chronic lung abscess for 4 years before the final diagnosis was made.

Small bowel obstruction by a giant fecal bezoar in a blind loop of small intestine: a case report.

Blind loop syndrome (BLS) is a clinical condition characterized by bacterial overgrowth and stasis within intestinal blind loops, which may result from anatomical abnormalities such as diverticula, fistulae, or surgical anastomoses. While end-to-side and side-to-side intestinal anastomoses are common surgical techniques, the latter has been associated with a higher risk of BLS due to the potential formation of stagnant segments. This case report presents a rare instance of small intestinal obstruction caused by large fecalith formation within a blind loop 1 year after side-to-side anastomosis.

An Unusual Case Report of Duodenojejunal Flexure Tumor With a Systematic Review of the Literature.

The small intestine is the longest segment of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, but cancers in the small intestine are infrequent. The duodenojejunal (DJ) flexure is an uncommon site for tumors, and those located in these sites are difficult to identify and manage properly. Their rarity, along with ambiguous symptoms that can be readily misattributed to milder conditions, results in a delayed diagnosis when the tumors have significantly advanced. We described the case report of a middle-aged woman presenting with features of intestinal obstruction with gastrointestinal bleeding, showing enteroe
