Cytogenetic analysis of metaphase chromosome spreads from peripheral blood cells of hepatitis B virus (HBV) chronic carriers and HBV-negative individuals of the same ethnic origin revealed a significantly higher incidence of chromosome breaks and other mitotic aberrations in the HBV chronic carriers.
