A Study on the Factors Affecting Anger in Patients With Post-traumatic Stress Disorder.

OBJECTIVE: To identify the factors affecting anger in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) patients who underwent Clinician-Administered PT … n analysis identified that the only significant risk factor for anger was the negative emotionality/neuroticism scale (odds ratio=1.152, p<0.001). CONCLUSION: The PTSD group had increased anger compared to the trauma-exposed without PTSD group, and that negative emotions may be a risk factor for PTSD.

Associations between personality traits and adherence to treatment in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma in an African population.

CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Inclusion of personality profile assessment and appropriate psychotherapeutic regimen in glaucoma diagnosis and manageme … ively. Non-adherence to glaucoma medication was significantly predicted by the personality profiles neuroticism, extraversion and openness which, respectively, accounted for 61.7%, 20.3% and 13.3% of the variance in the personality trait assessment. Old age and longer use of glaucoma medications were also significantly associated with non-adherence to glaucom …

Personality traits, alcohol use and problem drinking among undergraduates in southwest Nigeria.

Problem drinking, which may be more prominent among young adults, is associated with mental and physical complications. The onset, use, and abuse of alcohol may be related to personality traits such as agreeableness, neuroticism and extraversion. This study aimed to examine the relationship between personality traits and alcohol use among undergraduates in southwest Nigeria. This was a cross-sectional study carried out among undergraduates in southwestern Nigeria. Four hundred and twelve (412) students were recruited using multi-stage random sampling from the total full-time student population…

Workaholism and the Enactment of Bullying Behavior at Work: A Prospective Analysis.

Despite the fact that workaholism and workplace aggressive behavior share many correlates, such as neuroticism, hostility, and negative affectivity, little is known about their relationship, with most evidence on both phenomena coming from cross-sectional studies. In the present study, we contributed to a better understanding of the antecedents of enacted workplace bullying behavior (i.e., perpetration of bullying), and the potential interpersonal implications of workaholism, by investigating their cross-lagged relationship. Data from a two-wave one-year panel study conducted with 235 employee…

Vestibular Disability/Handicap in Fibromyalgia: A Questionnaire Study.

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a poorly understood, central pain processing disorder characterized by a broad range of symptoms, such as chronic pain, … ked to migraine and dysautonomia conditions. Correlations between dizziness and depressive mood (or neuroticism), revealed an impact of dizziness on psychological status, leading to depressive reactions and interpersonal difficulties, and possibly involving a noxious, self-sustained stress condition. In conclusion, data showed a manifesting dizziness conditio …

Networks of worry-towards a connectivity-based signature of late-life worry using higher criticism.

Severe worry is a complex transdiagnostic phenotype independently associated with increased morbidity, including cognitive impairment and ca … ty and adjusted for age, sex, race, education, disease burden, depression, anxiety, rumination, and neuroticism. We employed higher criticism, a second-level method of significance testing for rare and weak features, to reveal the functional connectivity patterns associated with worry. The analysis suggests that worry has a complex, yet distinct signature ass …

Association between Big Five Personality Traits and Participation in Cardiac Rehabilitation in Japanese Patients with Cardiovascular Disease: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) remains underutilised, despite its established clinical benefit. A personality traits assessment may help promote CR implementation, as they are determinants of health-related behaviour. This study aimed to examine the association between the Big Five personality traits and outpatient CR participation in patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) after discharge. This retrospective cohort study included 163 patients aged <80 years, who underwent inpatient CR when hospitalised for CVD. The Big Five personality traits (conscientiousness, neuroticism, openness, extrave…

Personality changes after acquired brain injury and their effects on rehabilitation outcomes.

Acquired brain injury (ABI) is often associated with personality changes. Pre- as well as post-injury personality traits are related to reha … n and a trend towards reduced conscientiousness. Significant others reported increases in patients' neuroticism. Pre- as well as post-injury personality traits were associated with depression and activities at both short- and long-term timepoints after ABI. The association was strongest for long-term depressive symptoms where personality trait variables accou …

Experiences of adversity in childhood and adolescence and cortisol in late adolescence.

Early life adversity influences the diurnal cortisol rhythm, yet the relative influence of different characteristics of adversity remains unknown. In this study, we examine how developmental timing (childhood vs. adolescence), severity (major vs. minor), and domain of early life adversity relate to diurnal cortisol rhythms in late adolescence. We assessed adversity retrospectively in early adulthood in a subsample of 236 participants from a longitudinal study of a diverse community sample of suburban adolescents oversampled for high neuroticism. We used multilevel modeling to assess associatio…

Comorbid depression as a negative predictor of weight gain during treatment of anorexia nervosa: A systematic scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a serious mental illness with high rates of relapse and mortality. Psychiatric comorbidities are common … ess as negative prognostic factors, whilst one study indicated moderate depression and yet another, neuroticism, as positive predictors for weight gain. DISCUSSION: The systematic scoping review found a large number of publications whereof only a few directly described the influence of psychiatric comorbidity on weight gain in AN. Advanced paternal age as a risk factor for neurodevelopmental disorders: a translational study.

Advanced paternal age (APA) is a risk factor for several neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism and schizophrenia. The potential mechanisms conferring this risk are poorly understood. Here, we show that the personality traits schizotypy and neuroticism correlated with paternal age in healthy subjects (N = 677). Paternal age was further positively associated with gray matter volume (VBM, N = 342) in the right prefrontal and the right medial temporal cortex. The integrity of fiber tracts (DTI, N = 222) connecting these two areas correlated positively with paternal age. Genome-wide methyl…

Personality traits in Huntington's disease: An exploratory study of gene expansion carriers and non-carriers.

Huntington's disease (HD) is associated with risk for developing psychiatric symptoms. Vulnerability or resilience to psychiatric symptoms m … ficantly lower scores on "Extraversion" and "Conscientiousness" and significantly higher scores on "Neuroticism," which are associated with vulnerability to psychiatric symptoms. Our findings suggest that, there is no direct effect of the HD gene on personality traits, but that personality assessment may be relevant to use when identifying individuals from HD …
