COVID-19 vaccination and clinical outcomes of immune checkpoint inhibitors therapy in cancer patients: a meta-analysis of real-world studies.

BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized cancer therapy, yet treatment responses remain heterogeneous. With the widespread implementation of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination, uncertainty persists regarding its impact on antitumor efficacy in patients receiving ICIs. While vaccine safety has been extensively studied, the association between COVID-19 vaccination and ICI therapeutic outcomes has not been systematically evaluated. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies examining the association between COVID-1

The association of dietary fat intake before and during pregnancy with the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus and impaired glucose intolerance: a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis on observational investigations.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies investigating the relationship of dietary fat intake with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) have yielded inconsistent findings. Therefore, the relationship between fat intake before and during pregnancy and risk of GDM and IGT was assessed. METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted using electronic databases up to June 2024. Our selection criteria focused on observational studies that reported odds ratios (ORs)/ relative risks (RRs)/ hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the associations between total

Examining the impact of COVID-19 on Māori:non-Māori health inequities in Aotearoa, New Zealand: an observational study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic has had both direct and indirect impacts on the health of populations worldwide. While racial/ethnic health inequities in COVID-19 infection are now well known (and ongoing), knowledge about the impact of COVID-19 pandemic management on non-COVID-19-related outcomes for Indigenous peoples is less well understood. This article presents the study protocol for the Health Research Council of New Zealand funded project 'Mā te Mōhio ka Mārama: Impact of COVID-19 on Māori:non-Māori inequities'. The study aims to explore changes in access to healthcare, quality of h

Differential recall bias in estimating treatment effects in observational studies.

Observational studies are frequently used to estimate the effect of an exposure or treatment on an outcome. To obtain an unbiased estimate of the treatment effect, it is crucial to measure the exposure accurately. A common type of exposure misclassification is recall bias, which occurs in retrospective cohort studies when study subjects may inaccurately recall their past exposure. Particularly challenging is differential recall bias in the context of self-reported binary exposures, where the bias may be directional rather than random and its extent varies according to the outcomes experienced.

Prevalence of portal vein thrombosis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: a meta-analysis of observational studies.

Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is a common complication of cirrhosis as a result of portal hypertension and modification in the hemostatic balance. Accumulating evidence now suggests that patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), especially those with advanced forms, have an increased risk of PVT. Hence, we performed a meta-analysis of observational studies to estimate the overall prevalence of PVT in patients with NAFLD and its advanced forms compared with patients with advanced liver diseases from other etiologies. We systematically searched PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science dat

RECAST: Study protocol for an observational study for the understanding of the increased REsilience of Children compared to Adults in SARS-CoV-2 infecTion.

INTRODUCTION: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic remains a threat to public health. Soon after its outbreak, it became apparent that children are less severely affected. Indeed, opposing clinical manifestations between children and adults are observed for other infections. The SARS-CoV-2 outbreak provides the unique opportunity to study the underlying mechanisms. This protocol describes the methods of an observational study that aims to characterise age dependent differences in immune responses to primary respiratory infections using SARS-CoV-2 as a model virus and to assess age differences in clinical o

Nutrition in Children With Chronic Kidney Disease: How to Thrive?

The nutritional status and management of children with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are complex and require a combined pediatric nephrology team work approach with physicians, nutritionists, nurses, and physical/occupational therapists. Prospective observational studies such as Children with CKD in the US, the 4C study in Europe and the International Pediatric Peritoneal Dialysis Network have advanced the field. However, most recommendations and guidelines from international task forces such as Kidney Diseases Improving Global Outcomes and Pediatric Renal Nutrition Taskforce are opinion-based
