AIM: Red reflex eye examinations often require opening the eyelids, risking infection. We evaluated links between this procedure and neonatal conjunctivitis.
METHODS: We divided 18 872 neonates of more than 35 weeks of gestation into two birth periods, 2008-2009 and 2010-2011, before and after red reflex examinations were carried out by our facility. The rates of clinical conjunctivitis, bacterial conjunctivitis and bacterial growth percentage were compared between the two periods.

It is well known that medial olivocochlear system (MOC) activity causes inhibition of cochlear amplification that can be measured using otoacoustic emissions (OAEs). The temporal characteristics of this MOC inhibitory effect are still not well understood. CONCLUSION: Testing of the horizontal vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) with head rotations (including head impulses) using the magnetic scleral search coil technique (SCT HHI) provides valuable additional diagnostic information in patients with persistent dizziness, oscillopsia or imbalance. The red reflex test is an important part of the newborn's ocular exam. This study investigated the relationship between red reflex in premature newborns (PN) and factors of the newborn history. It's a descriptive, exploratory, quantitative study conducted in a public maternity in Fortaleza, State of Ceará, with 114 PN between the months of April and May of 2004.
