Radiation-associated ischemic coloproctitis: report of two cases.

Radiation-associated ischemic coloproctitis is a rare clinical entity caused by vascular insufficiency to the rectosigmoid colon. It most commonly occurs after radiotherapy for gynecological cancer. We present herein the cases of two patients who developed radiation-associated coloproctitis with transmural necrosis and eventual perforation. Perforation of the rectosigmoid colon occurred 3.5 years after radiotherapy in case 1, a 46-year-old woman, and presented as a well-defined small area of transmural necrosis. Conversely, in case 2, a 55-year-old woman, it occurred 1.5 years after radiothera

[Locally disseminated cancer of the sigmoid colon].

The study discusses the experience of treatment of 207 patients with locally-advanced cancer of the sigmoid colon who made up 13.5% of the total number of cases of cancer of this site seen in the clinic in 1972-1990. Radical surgery was performed in 170 (82.1%) patients. Postoperative lethality rate was 5.8%, five-year survival rate--70.5 +/- 5.6%. The use of adjuvant preoperative radiotherapy assured a higher resection rate and had no adverse effect on immediate results.

[A Case of Double Cancer of Initially Unresectable Sigmoid Colon Cancer and Advanced Gastric Cancer Treated with Curative Resection after mFOLFOX6 Therapy].

A 61-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of a complaint of blood in stool. He was diagnosed with advanced colon and gastric cancers. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a sigmoid tumor with invasion to the bladder, a metastatic tumor in the lateral segmental branch of the left hepatic lobe, and ascites. He was diagnosed with initially unresectable double cancer. Ileostomy was performed immediately, and he was treated with modified (m) FOLFOX6 regimen (oxaliplatin in combination with infusional 5-fluorouracil/Leucovorin). After 6 courses of the mFOLFOX6 regimen, CT revealed that the

Reduced Ovarian Cancer Incidence in Women Exposed to Low Dose Ionizing Background Radiation or Radiation to the Ovaries after Treatment for Breast Cancer or Rectosigmoid Cancer.

BACKGROUND: High dose ionizing radiation can induce ovarian cancer, but the effect of low dose radiation on the development of ovarian cancer has not been extensively studied. We evaluated the effect of low dose radiation and total background radiation, and the radiation delivered to the ovaries during the treatment of rectosigmoid cancer and breast cancer on ovarian cancer incidence. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Background radiation measurements are from Assessment of Variations in Radiation Exposure in the United States, 2011. Ovarian cancer incidence data are from the Centers for Disease Control

[Intestinal occlusion due to a colonic lipoma. Apropos 2 cases].

Lipomas occur through the intestinal tract, from the hypopharynx to the rectum, the colon having the highest incidence, where lipomata are the commonest benign neoplasm after adenomata. Nevertheless they are uncommon. CASE REPORT. 1) A 68-year-old man presented as an emergency with abdominal pain associated with bowel obstruction. He had a 2 to 3 month history of intermittent right-sided abdominal pain, constipation spontaneously resolved. At laparotomy there was a mass of the transverse colon, next hepatic flexure. A right hemicolectomy was performed. The patient made an uneventful recovery.

Myxoid liposarcoma of sigmoid mesocolon: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Liposarcoma is a malignant mesenchymal tumor most commonly arising in the extremities and retroperitoneum. Involvement of the mesentery is rare, and primary liposarcoma of the large bowel mesentery has been reported fewer than 15 times in the English literature. Among its histological subtypes, myxoid liposarcoma is exceptionally rare in this location, with only four previous cases described. Owing to its rarity, there are no standardized management protocols, although wide surgical excision with negative margins remains the mainstay of treatment. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 73

Anterior Cutaneous Nerve Entrapment Syndrome in a 51-Year-Old Woman With Advanced Colon Cancer, Successfully Treated With Repeated Ultrasound-Guided Rectus Sheath Blocks: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Anterior cutaneous nerve entrapment syndrome is an underrecognized cause of abdominal wall pain and may be overlooked, particularly in patients with advanced cancer, in whom abdominal pain is often attributed to malignancy-related causes. Failure to identify coexisting non-cancer-related pain mechanisms can result in inadequate pain control and functional decline. CASE REPORT A 51-year-old woman with advanced sigmoid colon cancer and peritoneal metastasis presented with severe movement-related abdominal pain that was refractory to high-dose opioid therapy. Although tumor lesions wer

[A Case of MSI-H and Signet-Ring-Cell Carcinoma of the Colon].

The patient is a woman in her 70s. She came to our hospital because of constipation and abdominal pain. An abdominal CT scan showed a sigmoid colon mass and air in the surrounding mesentery, and an ileostomy was constructed based on the diagnosis of intramesenteric perforation of sigmoid colon cancer. Tumor biopsy by colonoscopy revealed a diagnosis of signet-ring-cell carcinoma. After 6 courses of mFOLFOX6 neoadjuvant chemotherapy, the patient underwent laparoscopic sigmoid colon resection and closure of the ileostomy. The final pathological diagnosis was pT4aN2aM0, pStage Ⅲc, RM1, microsatel

[A Case of Local Resection and Mesh Repair of the Abdominal Wall to Effectively Treat the Recurrence of Sigmoid Colon Cancer with Spontaneous Perforation in the Inguinal Hernia Sac].

A 79-year-old man presented with a painful palpable mass in his lower abdominal wall, measuring approximately 7 cm, that occurred 4 months after undergoing partial sigmoidectomy for sigmoid colon cancer perforation within the left inguinal hernia sac. The mass was diagnosed as a recurrent tumor of sigmoid colon cancer located in the left rectus abdominis muscle. Chemotherapy was initially considered for treatment; however, surgical resection of the tumor combined with abdominal wall reconstruction was ultimately selected because the tumor caused significant pain and impacted the quality of lif

[A Case Report of Suspicious of Lymph Node Metastasis after Endoscopic Mucosal Resection for Sigmoid Colon Carcinoma In Situ].

A 71-year-old man underwent endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR)of a sigmoid colon polyp 7 years ago. The pathological result was adenocarcinoma(pap+tub2+tub1), pTis, ly(-), v(-). Then he was under observation. This time, a 20 mm submucosal tumor-like finding was found near the scar after EMR, and a biopsy revealed a diagnosis of adenocarcinoma (tub2). CT scan showed lymphadenopathy beside sigmoid colon. There were no non-resectable factors, so a laparoscopic sigmoid resection was performed. The pathological result showed adenocarcinoma(tub2), and although some parts were continuous with the muco

[A Case of MSI-H Sigmoid Colon Cancer with Para-Aortic Lymph Node Metastasis Treated with Pembrolizumab and Radical Resection].

A 60-year-old male was admitted to the hospital with abdominal pain and diagnosed with microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H)sigmoid colon cancer. Computed tomography revealed an obstructive mass in the sigmoid colon along with swelling of the para-aortic lymph nodes. The patient initially underwent loop transverse colostomy, followed by treatment with the immune checkpoint inhibitor(ICI)pembrolizumab. After 5 courses of ICI, the tumor significantly shrank; therefore, radical resection was performed. The patient has been monitored without adjuvant chemotherapy, and recurrence has not occurred

Adenocarcinoma arising in sigmoid colon neovagina 53 years after construction.

BACKGROUND: In view of the rarity of vaginal agenesis, malignancy arising in the neovagina is extremely rare. CASE PRESENTATION: Here, we report a 76-year-old female with an adenocarcinoma arising in the sigmoid colon neovagina which was constructed 53 years ago for congenital vaginal agenesis. Vaginal endoscopy to examine vaginal bleeding revealed a protruding lesion occupying three quarters of the lumen in the vicinity of anastomosis of the residual vagina and sigmoid colon. Transvaginal ultrasonography revealed the muscularis propria layer (hypoechoic fourth layer) to be interrupted. CT re

[Urethral Fistula and Scrotal Abscess Associated with Colovesical Fistula Due to the Sigmoid Colon Cancer].

We report here a rare case of urethral fistula and scrotal abscess associated with colovesical fistula due to sigmoid colon cancer. An 84-year-old male was referred to our hospital complaining of macrohematuria, fecaluria, pneumaturia and micturitional pain. Computed tomography (CT) showed colovesical fistula. Other examinations, including colonoscopy and cystoscopy, did not reveal a clear cause for the colovesical fistula. Only an elevated serum level of the tumor marker CA19-9 suggested the possibility of sigmoid colon cancer. Eleven days after hospitalization, bilateral scrotal contents had
