CONTEXT: Measurement of plasma steroids is necessary for diagnosis of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). We sought to establish an efficient strategy for detection and subtyping of CAH with a machine-learning algorithm.

OBJECTIVE: A 5 1/2-year-old boy presenting with virilization was diagnosed as having classic 21-hydroxylase deficiency complicated by an adrenal tumor. We attempted to document a reduction in the size of the tumor with glucocorticoid therapy.

The results of a clinico-immunologic study of thymalin as a component of complex antitumor treatment of 21 cases of cancer of corpus uteri pointed to a pronounced immunomodulating action of the drug on T-cell-mediated immunity. Data are presented concerning a case of female pseudohermaphroditism of unknown etiology. The child was born with labioscrotal fusion and clitoromegaly. The levels of progesterone, 17 alpha-hydroxyprogesterone, androstenedione, testosterone and estradiol were measured in the testicular venous effluent from a testis containing a complex malignant tumor associated with gynecomastia and increased serum levels of beta-human chorionic gonadotropin. An abnormally low testosterone/estradiol ratio was encountered (83 in the peripheral serum and 101 in the spermatic venous effluent). On the basis of the available data no delineation could be made as to the relative contributions to estradiol production of tumor tissue and Leydig cells.
