OBJECTIVE: Here, we sought to report ABO and D antigen distribution in blood donors from Yogyakarta, Java Island, Indonesia. Phenotype data (ABO/D) from donors who donated blood between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2023, at the Yogyakarta Blood Donor Unit were extracted from the blood donor registry, and phenotype frequency was calculated subsequently.
RESULTS: In the 245,307 blood donors collected over six years, ABO phenotype frequency: O (frequency: 38.5%) > B (29.4%) > A (24.1%) > AB (8.0%). The D-positive phenotype was far more common (99.5%) than the D-negative phenotype (0.5%). Th

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the distribution characteristics of Rh phenotype in pregnant and postpartum women in Chongqing area, and to explore the clinical significance of Rh phenotype in pregnant and postpartum women and the feasibility of Rh phenotype compatible blood transfusion.
METHODS: The ABO blood group and Rh phenotype of 65 161 pregnant and postpartum women were detected by microcolumn gel method, and 48 122 males in the same period were taken as controls. The data were analyzed by Chi-square test.
RESULTS: There were 112 870 cases (99.64%) of RhD+ in 113 283 samples. In RhD+ cases, CCD

Aqueous and butanol phase extracts of rabbit erythrocytes and the tissues gastric mucosa, liver, lung and kidney were examined by inhibition of agglutination for the presence of H, HI, I and i blood group substances. Of the four specificities, only I substance was recovered from erythrocytes and only in the aqueous phase extracts. Both aqueous and butanol extracts of gastric mucosae contained H substance, but HI and I were present only in the aqueous extracts of this tissue. Extracts of rabbit lungs only had H and I activity and only in the aqueous phase. No H, HI, I or i substance was detecte

OBJECTIVE: To investigate and assess hemolytic transfusion reaction in patient with complex and combined anti-Fya and anti-Jkb which so as to provide a safety blood transfusion strategy.
METHODS: ABO/Rh blood grouping, antibody screening and identification, and Coombs' tests were performed by the routine serological methods include manual tube and automatic blood group analyzer with matching micro-column gel cards from Diagnostic Grifols and Jiangsu LIBO. The hospital information system and laboratory information system were used to collect dada on patients' blood routine tests, liver and kid

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Red blood cell (RBC) transfusions pose a risk of alloantibody development in patients. For patients with increased alloimmunization risk, extended preventive matching is advised, encompassing not only the ABO-D blood groups but also the most clinically relevant minor antigens: C, c, E, e, K, Fya, Fyb, Jka, Jkb, S and s. This study incorporates patient-specific data and the clinical consequences of mismatching into the allocation process.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We have redefined the MINimize Relative Alloimmunization Risks (MINRAR) model to include patient group pref

BACKGROUND: Integration of precision diagnosis in Immunohaematology and Transfusion Medicine has led to the development of more refined blood typing and crossmatching techniques, ensuring improved accuracy of blood group determination, thereby reducing the incidence of transfusion reactions and enhancing patient safety. It can also help resolve complex discrepancies noted in serological testing methods.
STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: The blood grouping of a 40 year old female patient done as a part of routine health check using column agglutination technology showed a O group phenotype with additi

We did crossmatching in 220 transfusions of single donor platelet concentrates using the purchaseable solid phase immunoassay Capture-P (Immucor, Rödermark, FRG), checking posttransfusion response by calculating the corrected count increment (CCI). Our results show that posttransfusion response in transfusions of ABO major incompatible platelet concentrates is virtually reduced only in those transfusions accompanied by a positive crossmatch in Capture-P. As Capture-P can detect IgG antibodies only, positive test results could well be due to a reaction of recipient immune isoagglutinins with AB

The patients were observed by a reanimation-hematological team of the Leningrad emergency service. It has been established that the hemorrhagic syndrome is the main one deterimining the unity of pathogenesis and clinical picture of the hemotransfusional complication. Phase character of the changes in the homeostasis system during the transfusion of incompatible blood was noted. The express diagnosis of the disorders and a scheme of the sequence of administration of hemostatic drugs are proposed. Mortality among such patients was reduced.

BACKGROUND: The parasite Toxoplasma gondii influences the behaviour of infected animals and probably also personality of infected humans. Subjects with a Rhesus-positive blood group are protected against certain behavioural effects associated with Toxoplasma infection, including the deterioration of reaction times and personality factor shift.
METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Here, we searched for differences in the toxoplasmosis-associated effects between RhD-positive and RhD-negative subjects by testing 502 soldiers with two personality tests and two intelligence tests. The infected subjects

ABO-mismatched plasma and platelet (PLT) transfusion have been associated with worse outcomes, including haemolysis and other reactions, compared to recipients of ABO-identical products. The immune complexes that form in a mismatched transfusion have been demonstrated to stimulate pyrogenic cytokine release in vitro. Comparing ABO identical vs. ABO mismatched PLT transfusions, we found no significant difference in the ABO compatibilities between the PLT doses implicated in causing febrile non-haemolytic transfusion reactions (FNHTR) in 162 recipients and both the baseline PLT donor/recipient A

BACKGROUND: Difficulties in the demonstration of expected isoagglutinins is a common problem in ABO reverse typing. Some nondeletional ABO*O alleles have been shown to encode for the expression of minimal amounts of A antigen, resulting in very weak anti-A activity in some cases. It is unknown whether minor problems with ABO reverse typing are related to specific ABO*O alleles.
STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Among 2196 blood group O red cell (RBC) donations, the ABO alleles of those donations in which the isoagglutinins were incorrectly identified were analyzed with an autoanalyzer. The presence o

BACKGROUND: The mechanisms that determine the progression to cardiac or digestive forms of chronic Chagas disease (CD) are still unclear. We assessed the association between blood group antigens ABO, Rh, Kell, Kidd, Duffy and MNS, and chronic CD clinical forms.
METHODS: Patients were included consecutively between March 2013 and April 2016. Clinical and epidemiological data were obtained from electronic medical records and interviews. Classification of CD clinical forms followed the Brazilian Consensus on CD. The ID-Gel Card technology from Bio-Rad (Diamed/Bio-Rad Latin America, MG, Brazil) w
