Open Science in Spain: Influence of Personal and Contextual Factors on Deposit Patterns.

BACKGROUND: This study investigates factors influencing the deposit of academic publications and research data in open access repositories by Spanish researchers. METHODS: Using survey data from a sample of Spanish academics, the research examines the impact of personal attributes (e.g., gender, age, knowledge of open science) and contextual variables (e.g., academic discipline, institutional type) on deposit behaviours. Quantitative methods, including chi-square tests and regression analysis, reveal significant associations between knowledge of open science and deposit practices. RESULTS: R

Nurse educators' experiences and perceptions using generative artificial intelligence: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: The rapid uptake of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in higher education has increased both enthusiasm and concern. While students' use of GenAI has been widely discussed, empirical research focusing on nurse educators' own experiences and perceptions remains limited. This systematic review synthesizes evidence on nurse educators' experiences of using generative artificial intelligence in teaching. METHODS: A systematic literature review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Searches were performed in PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, and ERIC. Peer-revi

Examining How Academic Subscribers Implement Alcohol eCHECKUP to GO.

BACKGROUND: Colleges and universities use various prevention and intervention programs to address high-risk drinking among their students. Alcohol eCHECKUP TO GO is one of the most popular programs to address this risk, with strong empirical support. However, it is unclear how the context of the efficacy studies aligns with the context of typical use. OBJECTIVES: The current study examined how institutions are implementing Alcohol eCHECKUP TO GO on their campuses, including: who receives the program (e.g., first-year students), how it is disseminated (remotely versus in person), if the progra

It also examines student perceptions of the inclusiveness of university policies

The thesis defense as an academic rite: a call for institutional standards of conduct and excellence in postgraduate programs.

The public defense of a master's dissertation or doctoral thesis is a defining moment in postgraduate education. It represents both an academic evaluation and a ceremony that marks the transition of a researcher into an independent scientific career. Yet in many postgraduate programs, the conduct expected of candidates, examiners, and the audience during these proceedings remains largely unwritten, transmitted informally from one generation to the next. We argue that this absence of codified standards carries real consequences for the quality and fairness of the evaluation process. Drawing on

Development of non-dopamine active drugs for negative symptoms.

Most individuals affected by schizophrenia manifest negative symptoms. Because negative symptoms have a persistent deleterious effect on the social and vocational performance of the affected individuals, investigators in academia and pharmaceutical industry are making efforts to develop treatments for this condition. To be successful basic science must expand beyond attempts to interfere with the brain dopaminergic activity and clinical science must improve trials methodology.

Disc repositioning: does it really work?

Although limited, there is evidence to support the assumption that temporomandibular joint (TMJ) articular disc repositioning indeed works; to date, there is no evidence that TMJ articular disc repositioning does not work. Despite the controversy among professionals in private practice and academia, TMJ articular disc repositioning is a procedure based on (still limited) evidence; the opposition is based solely on clinical preference and influenced by the ability to perform it or not.

Clean energy and the hydrogen economy.

In recent years, new-found interest in the hydrogen economy from both industry and academia has helped to shed light on its potential. Hydrogen can enable an energy revolution by providing much needed flexibility in renewable energy systems. As a clean energy carrier, hydrogen offers a range of benefits for simultaneously decarbonizing the transport, residential, commercial and industrial sectors. Hydrogen is shown here to have synergies with other low-carbon alternatives, and can enable a more cost-effective transition to de-carbonized and cleaner energy systems. This paper presents the oppor…

Embedding digital health education into pre-registration health degrees: a pilot evaluation of a train-the-trainer toolkit.

BACKGROUND: A digitally-literate and future-ready healthcare workforce is essential to realise the benefits of digital health and address critical healthcare challenges. Embedding digital health content into health degree curricula is a strategic priority, yet integration is hindered by the absence of standardised, professionally endorsed curriculum and limited educator expertise. Following development of an educator toolkit, this pilot evaluation study aimed to explore: "How do educators and academic leaders perceive the appropriateness, usability, usefulness and feasibility of a toolkit desi

Beyond the Leash: Exploring the Public Health Dimension of Facility Dog Handler Experiences in Military Graduate Education.

Facility dogs are increasingly incorporated throughout higher-education institutions as integrative conduits for supporting students by reducing stress, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion. While these programs are designed to enhance student well-being, little is known about the experiences of the handlers who train, care for, and work with these dogs-specifically within military-affiliated programs. The handlers' role necessitates a unique dynamic of caregiving, emotional labor, and professional responsibility and management that can create role conflict and additional stress among those gradu

Facilitators to doctoral completion among international students in a Global South University: An appreciative inquiry perspective.

In the context of the global knowledge economy, the Global South has emerged as an increasingly important destination for doctoral education, yet research on this phenomenon remains scarce. The present study addresses this research gap by investigating the factors that contribute to the successful completion of doctoral programs among international students from the Global South enrolled at a public research university in Malaysia. Employing the Appreciative Inquiry approach, this study conducted semi-structured interviews with 11 international doctoral graduates. Findings reveal that intrinsi
