OBJECTIVE: Systematic reviews and Meta-analysis were conducted to assess the efficacy and security of adenoidectomy for the treatment of otitis media with effusion in children.
METHOD: Based on the principles and methods of Cochrane systematic reviews, literature was searched in PubMed, Medline, Elisevier, Ovid, CBM, CNKI, VIP and Wanfang datebases. Randomized controlled trials about treatment of otitis media with effusion in children using adenoidectomy were included. Cases of the new variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD) in human beings have to be anticipated in Germany. In subclinical vCJD, the accumulation of prions in lymphoid tissue has been identified prior to their manifestation in cerebral tissue. The remarkable resistance of prions to standard methods of sterilisation questions the safety of reusing metallic surgical instruments. Patients with bleeding disorders (BDs) are believed to have an increased risk of PTB. Tonsillectomy and/or adenoidectomy are often performed with endotracheal intubation (ETT), however use of laryngeal mask airway (LMA) may offer decreased airway irritation. We investigated the laryngospasm rate and conversion rate of LMA use in a total of 1585 retrospective cases of tonsillectomies and/or adenoidectomies, the largest single center cohort to date.
