[Photodynamic diagnosis and therapy of neoplasms of the facial skin after topical administration of 5-aminolevulinic acid].

Topical application of 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) is a useful instrument for photodynamic diagnosis and therapy of skin tumours. Diagnostic fluorescence imaging after laser light irradiation (410 nm) revealed a high, tumour-specific fluorescence even in tumour areas not apparent prior to this examination technique. This demonstrates the possibility of photodynamic diagnosis to detect skin tumours. In the therapeutic group 8 patients with 6 solar keratoses and 12 basal cell carcinomas underwent laser light irradiation using a wavelength of 635 nm (dosage 100 J/cm2) 6 hours after topical appl

Low risk of ocular toxicity following topical ocular administration of epinephrine nasal spray: implications for unintentional exposure.

INTRODUCTION: Unintentional ocular exposure to epinephrine nasal spray (10 mg/mL epinephrine) is a potential safety concern. Although epinephrine is used in multiple ocular formulations, unintentional ocular administration of epinephrine nasal spray was assessed to determine tolerability and support the overall safety profile. METHODS: A non-GLP ocular tolerability study was conducted using six naïve New Zealand White rabbits (3 males, 3 females). Vehicle control or epinephrine nasal spray (1 mg) was applied to the right or left eye, respectively, once on Day 1. Animals were monitored over se

Administration of Topical NorLeu3Angiotensin(1-7) Minimizes Fibrotic Corneal Healing in Stellate Wound: A 28-Day Study.

Severe full-thickness corneal lacerations disrupt the tight cellular and extracellular matrix (ECM) organization required for corneal transparency. Following injury, an influx of transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) into the corneal stroma signals the formation of haze-inducing myofibroblasts, resulting in excessive stromal remodeling and corneal haze. We hypothesized that MasR activation using NorLeu3Angiotensin (1-7) (NLE) engages the pro-resolving arm of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) to minimize fibrotic corneal repair. In this study, 6 mm stellate-shaped, full-thickness corneal lace

Topical TSG-6 Administration Protects the Ocular Surface in Two Mouse Models of Inflammation-Related Dry Eye.

PURPOSE: To investigate the therapeutic potential of TNF-α stimulated gene/protein (TSG)-6 in two mouse models of inflammation-mediated dry eye syndrome (DES). METHODS: We created inflammation-mediated DES in mice by injecting concanavalin A (ConA; 10 mg/mL) into intraorbital and extraorbital lacrimal glands. Recombinant TSG-6 (1 μg in phosphate-buffered solution [PBS]) or the same volume of PBS was administered topically to eyes of the mice four times a day (QID) for 1 week. In parallel experiments, we topically applied TSG-6 (1 μg) or PBS QID to eyes of 12-week-old NOD.B10.H2b mice, a model

The effect of topical ocular corticosteroid administration in dogs with experimentally induced latent canine herpesvirus-1 infection.

Recurrent herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) ocular infection is a frequent cause of morbidity and blindness. Factors that trigger viral reactivation are poorly understood and the role of topical ocular corticosteroid administration in the development of recurrent HSV-1 ocular disease is not clear. Clinical reports and epidemiological studies suggested topical corticosteroids may reactivate latent HSV-1 and result in recrudescent ocular disease; however, experimental studies to establish this causal relationship produced inconsistent results. The previous experimental studies were performed by inf

3D-printed gelatin/dialdehyde starch hydrogels for hydrocortisone topical administration and in vivo treatment of atopic dermatitis.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic disorder affecting millions worldwide. Recent advancements suggest that combining therapies can significantly improve AD treatment outcomes and mitigate the challenges of long-term drug use, particularly with corticosteroids. In this study, we developed a 3D-printed hydrogel composed of gelatin (Gel) and dialdehyde starch (DAS), capable of encapsulating and delivering hydrocortisone (HC). DAS was synthesized via an oxidation reaction, introducing aldehyde groups that facilitated hydrogel formation with Gel through imine bond formation (Schiff base reaction).

Topical administration of tranexamic acid for prevention of postoperative epidural fibrosis: insights from a rabbit laminectomy model.

Significant advancements in imaging and surgical methodologies have led to more frequent performance of neurosurgical procedures such as laminectomy in both animal and human patients. Epidural fibrosis (EF) is defined as the excessive formation of scar tissue in the epidural space after lumbar laminectomy, often resulting in recurring postoperative pain. Given the association between postoperative hematoma accumulation at the laminectomy site and the development of EF, the present study aimed to evaluate the preventive impact of tranexamic acid (TXA), an antifibrinolytic agent with well-recogn
