Sixteen infants less than 2 years of age with apparently idiopathic hypopituitarism were studied. At birth, 11 of 16 patients (69%) had subnormal length associated with relative adiposity and 10 of 16 (62%) showed significant deterioration in length deficiency from birth onwards. These findings suggest that: (a) growth hormone deficiency, in a number of patients, had started well before delivery; (b) growth hormones may play a role in intrauterine growth; and (c) growth hormone may also be involved in early postnatal growth. Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis is being recognized with increasing frequency in the United States. The characteristics of the disease are recurrent pyrexia, cough, wheezing, sputum plugs containing aspergilli, fleeting pulmonary infiltrates, eosinophilia, dual skin reactions (immediate and late), and antibodies to the fungus in the blood. The pathogenetic mechanism is believed to involve type I and type III hypersensitivity reactions. Adrenal corticosteroids are effective in treating this condition.

The first patient was a 36-year-old woman, who was found incidentally to have a left adrenal tumor by CT scan during admission for treatment of Guillain-Barré syndrome.
