Snakebite envenomation is considered a neglected tropical disease, although it also occurs outside the tropics. In this work, we analyzed the literature on Philodryas species in Chile (Philodryaschamissonis, P.simonsii, and P.tachymenoides) from 1834 to 2019, searching for epidemiological, clinical, and molecular aspects of envenomation. BACKGROUND: Chlamydia trachomatis is a common sexually transmitted infection in Chile, but little is known about the genovar distribution in genital infections. Thus, the objective of this study was to determine the distribution of C. trachomatis genovars in such cases.
METHODS: A total of 522 urogenital specimens, 403 from women and 119 from men, were analyzed for C. trachomatis by nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) targeting of the ompA gene. Positive specimens were genotyped by DNA sequencing of the amplicons.

Scarce information about the epidemiology of historical influenza pandemics in South America prevents complete understanding of pandemic patterns throughout the continent and across different climatic zones. Aiming to measure the prevalence of risky behaviors, familial disturbances and their interrelations, a probabilistic sample of 1904 teenagers (aged 15.5 +/- 1.8 years, 42% male) was surveyed using and anonymous and self applied questionnaire. Fifty two percent of the sample smoked, 54% consumed alcohol, 12.5% marihuana, 3.2% amphetamines, 2.3% cocaine, 0.8% inhalants and 5.3% other drugs. A study of female mummies representing seven pre-Columbian Andean populations of Arica, Chile, dating from 1300 B.C. (Azapa phase) to A.D. 1400 (Gentilar phase), disclosed that 18 (14% of the total) had died from childbirth-complicated death (CCD).
