Activation of a frog stomach muscle preparation by electrical stimulation of a vagus nerve or by direct stimulation released two polypeptides. One was destroyed by trypsin or chymotrypsin in about 10 min; the activity of the other was enhanced by trypsin for about 10 min, but was destroyed by chymotrypsin. Similar stimulation of dog stomach muscle did not release these polypeptides. Correspondingly, the transmission from vagus nerve to stomach muscle in the frog was resistant to atropine, but was blocked by atropine in the dog.

A series of 27 new barbiturates and thiobarbiturates have been synthesized by a convenient multi-component reaction in overall excellent yields (87-96%). All the synthesized compounds were characterized by 1H, 13C NMR, EIMS and elemental analysis (C, H, N and S). Furthermore, all compounds were screened for in vitro antioxidant (DPPH radical scavenging), lipoxygenase, chymotrypsin, α-glucosidase and anti-urease activities. Out of the series, 23 in DPPH, 14 in lipoxygenase, 2 in chymotrypsin have shown appreciable IC50 values.

To determine the first steps involved in the mechanism of action of aldosterone and its antagonists, we analysed the ligand-induced structural changes of the human mineralocorticoid receptor (hMR) translated in vitro.
