[A Case of Ascending Colon Cancer with Essential Thrombocythemia].

Essential thrombocythemia(ET)is a rare myeloproliferative disorder characterized by thrombocytosis and a risk of thrombotic and hemorrhagic events. ET rarely occurs simultaneously with colorectal cancer. Including our case, only 5 cases of c o l orectal cancer with ET have been reported in Japan. Herein, we report a case of colon cancer in an ET patient who underwent laparoscopic right hemicolectomy. Our perioperative management avoided complications such as thrombosis or bleeding. An 81-year-old woman developed bloody stools. She was previously diagnosed with ET 9 years ago. Aspirin, cilostaz

Retroperitoneal Cecal Perforation Resulting from Obstructive Ascending Colon Adenocarcinoma.

Most colorectal cancer patients in the early stages of the disease do not display any alarming symptoms. A total percentage of 9-27% of colorectal cancer patients present with acute abdomen, bowel obstruction, perforation, or bleeding. Perforation as the first presentation of the disease is seen in no more than 2.6-10% of patients. Intestinal perforation may be found on either the site of the tumor or on a more proximal site, caused by distention of the bowel due to peripheral obstruction. This is a case of a 75-year-old female patient who presents in the emergency department with retroperiton

Solitary ascending colon ulcer diagnosed as gastrointestinal CMV disease.

A 42-year-old woman with a history of cholangiocarcinoma on adjuvant chemotherapy with capecitabine presented with painless haematochezia. She was found to have an isolated twenty-five mm ulcer in the ascending colon. Biopsies of the ulceration demonstrated typical cytomegalovirus (CMV) inclusions and her peripheral blood CMV PCR was significantly elevated. This is an unusual case of a solitary proximal colon ulcer. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, inflammatory bowel disease and malignancy, are the most frequent causes of isolated ulcers in the proximal colon. Gastrointestinal (GI) CMV d

Squamous cell carcinoma of the ascending colon: two cases.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the colon without known primary source is a rare finding that needs aggressive management. We report two cases of SCC of the colon without any clear extra-colonic source despite extensive workup. In our experience, the clinical course and prognosis are largely dependent on the presence of metastatic disease at diagnosis. The main treatment is surgery, with chemotherapy having less defined role.

Schwannoma of ascending colon treated by laparoscopic right hemicolectomy.

Schwannomas of the colon are rare and are difficult to diagnose preoperatively, since they often defy endoscopic and radiographic detection. Immunohistochemical stains are useful postoperatively to confirm this tumor, but more reliable diagnostic techniques (such as colonoscopic biopsy with immunohistochemistry) have emerged to enhance preoperative diagnostic accuracy. Here we report an instance of schwannoma arising in the ascending colon, where immunohistochemical staining of a preoperative biopsy facilitated diagnosis. After laparoscopic resection, histologic examination was confirmatory.

Chronic anisakiasis of the ascending colon associated with carcinoma.

Chronic anisakiasis of the colon is rare and difficult to diagnose. We report a case of chronic anisakiasis associated with advanced colonic carcinoma. A 69-year-old man was admitted for abdominal pain, diarrhea, and urticaria. Right hemicolectomy was performed because of an obstruction of the ascending colon and a palpable tumor of the right lower abdomen. The lesion was thought to be located in the deeper layers of the ascending colon. Preoperative examinations failed to detect the coexistence of anisakiasis and carcinoma of the colon. The anisakis was identified morphologically in the intes

A rare case of ascending colon actinomycosis mimicking cancer.

BACKGROUND: Actinomycosis is a rare inflammatory disease caused by an anaerobic bacterium that can rarely affect the large intestine. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a rare case of a cecum and ascending colon actinomycosis in a 72 years old woman, mimicking clinically a malignant inflammatory tumor of the right colon. The patient complained of right lower quadrant pain. Although our first thought was a peri-appendiceal abscess, CT scan suggested a right colon tumor. The patient underwent a right colectomy and the histological examination of the specimen revealed colon actinomycosis. CONCLUSION

Huge cystic duplication of the ascending colon in adult.

Duplications of alimentary tract are uncommon congenital anomalies that are usually identified during the pediatric age. However, a minority of cases remain unsuspected until adulthood. They may be cystic or tubular in appearance and characteristically arise from the mesenteric border of the intestine. This paper reports a 37-year-old male with a huge cystic duplication of the ascending colon. In facing such a huge abdominal cystic tumor, differential diagnoses including duplication cyst, mesenteric cyst, choledochal cyst, giant diverticulum, and cystic tumor of the pancreas should be consider

[Penile metastasis from ascending colon carcinoma: a case report].

A 63-year-old man was referred to our hospital with the chief complaint of penile pain. Four hard tumors existed in his glans. He had priapism and perineal pain thereafter. Close examination revealed that the penile tumors were metastatic cancer from the adenocarcinoma of the ascending colon. Radical operation could not be performed because he was already suffering from peritonitis carcinomatosa. He died about four months after his first visit to our hospital.

Amoeboma of ascending colon with multiple amoebic liver abscesses.

A case of amoeboma of the ascending colon with multiple amoebic liver abscess is being presented; which was mistakenly diagnosed as carcinoma of ascending colon with multiple secondaries in liver. Awareness of this previously unreported association is important because it adds to our knowledge of the spectrum of intestinal amoebiasis.

[Volvulus of the ascending colon. Apropos of 5 cases].

The authors report five cases of volvulus of the right side of the colon, including 3 with complications, which required segmental colonic resection. They recall the diagnostic and therapeutic problems, emphasising the interest of barium enema, the necessity of early diagnosis, the high level of mortality and the treatment of choice which is right hemicolectomy.

The neurological junction between the appendix and ascending colon.

The junction between gut wall having the intramural plexus distribution characteristic of large bowel and that of appendix does not occur at the anatomical junction of the caecum and the appendix but at a level proximal to this and just distal to the ileocaecal valve.
