A bivariate multi-level model, which avoids mathematical coupling in the study of change and initial periodontal attachment level after therapy.

When relating the change of periodontal attachment level to its baseline value, mathematical coupling has to be taken into account. Oldham's strategy of testing the differences in variances of two repeated measurements was recently advocated as a possible solution. Here, a simple bivariate three-level (site and subject with a lowest level specifying the multivariate structure) model is introduced where gingival units (sites) were nested in subjects. It allows the easy interpretation of the variance-covariance structure and fixed model estimates, and provides an unbiased estimate of the correla

Laboratory monitoring of therapy in von Willebrand disease: efficacy of the PFA-100 and von Willebrand factor:collagen-binding activity as coupled strategies.

Clinical management of von Willebrand disease (or von Willebrand disorder [vWD]) often involves factor replacement or desmopressin acetate (DDAVP) therapy to control (potential) bleeding. Laboratory monitoring involves testing patient samples prior to therapy and at discreet time points after therapy. Classical testing generally comprises assays for factor VIII:coagulant activity, von Willebrand factor (vWF):antigen and vWF:ristocetin cofactor activity. The PFA-100 (platelet function analyser) is a relatively new tool for the investigation of primary hemostasis, and studies have shown its pote

An Initial Examination of Couple Therapy for PTSD Outcomes Among Black/African American Adults: Findings from an Uncontrolled Trial with Military Dyads.

Black/African American individuals experience high rates of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which is frequently chronic and undertreated in this population. Intimate relationships are a salient resource for Black/African American adults' psychological well-being. To help advance health equity, this study serves as an initial, proof-of-concept investigation of patient outcomes among Black/African American adults who received a disorder-specific couple therapy for PTSD. Participants were a subsample of seven Black/African American adults (mean age = 40.56 years, SD = 10.18; 85.7% male) who

Targeting Gi/o protein-coupled receptor signaling blocks HER2-induced breast cancer development and enhances HER2-targeted therapy.

GPCRs are highly desirable drug targets for human disease. Although GPCR dysfunction drives development and progression of many tumors, including breast cancer (BC), targeting individual GPCRs has limited efficacy as a cancer therapy because numerous GPCRs are activated. Here, we sought a new way of blocking GPCR activation in HER2+ BC by targeting a subgroup of GPCRs that couple to Gi/o proteins (Gi/o-GPCRs). In mammary epithelial cells of transgenic mouse models, and BC cell lines, HER2 hyperactivation altered GPCR expression, particularly, Gi/o-GPCR expression. Gi/o-GPCR stimulation transac

Aminosilanized flower-structured superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles coupled to 131I-labeled CC49 antibody for combined radionuclide and hyperthermia therapy of cancer.

Combined radionuclide therapy with magnetic nanoparticles-mediated hyperthermia has been under research focus as a promising tumor therapy approach. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential of 131I-radiolabeled superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) prepared as the ~40 nm flower-shaped structures with excellent heating efficiency (specific absorption rate at H0 = 15.9 kA∙m-1 and resonant frequency of 252 kHz was 123.1 W∙g-1) for nano-brachytherapy of tumors. 131I-radiolabeled CC49 antibody attached to SPIONs via reactive groups of 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (

[Quantitative evaluation of neurovegetative systemic changes based on the degree of minute-rhythmic coupling and control quality in acute and chronic diazépam therapy of neuroses].

In 10 patients with definite forms of neurosis, controlphysiologic and biorhythmometric investigations were carried out to establish the effectiveness of diazepam therapy. After acute application of 10 mg diazepam, an increase in the degree of minute-rhythmic coupling correlated positively with a decrease of the control area, of the time adjustment of the heart rate after load-related deflection, and with an increase in a derived complex parameter of control quality. Chronic therapy with diazepam reversed the positive tendency of the biorhythmometric and control parameters. The results permit

Network-specific enhancement of global blood-oxygen-level-dependent signals and CSF coupling after language therapy in post-stroke aphasia.

Emerging evidence indicates that stroke may impair glymphatic function by disrupting cerebrospinal fluid clearance. The coupling between global blood-oxygen-level-dependent signals and cerebrospinal fluid flow has been proposed as a non-invasive biomarker of glymphatic activity. However, it remains unclear whether this coupling can be modulated through rehabilitation. This study investigated whether language therapy in patients with post-stroke aphasia enhances global blood-oxygen-level-dependent- cerebrospinal fluid coupling, thereby reflecting potential restoration of fluid-brain interaction

Black phosphorus/calcium silicate-functionalized 3D hierarchical scaffolds: Coupling photothermal therapy with ion microenvironment-induced mineralization for bone repair.

The repair of large-scale bone defects remains a significant challenge in clinical orthopedics, often complicated by bacterial infection and limited self-healing capacity. Therefore, developing artificial scaffolds that can simultaneously prevent infection and orchestrate a regenerative microenvironment is critical for successful therapy. Herein, a hierarchical 3D scaffold (CaSiO3/PCL NFs + BP@PCL MSs) integrating calcium silicate (CaSiO3)-doped polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofibers and black phosphorus (BP)-encapsulated microspheres is engineered via combined electrospinning and electrospraying t

Coupling negative pressure wound therapy with instillation and split-thickness skin graft for a large chronic venous leg ulceration: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic VLUs are quite challenging to heal with many currently available treatment methods. The timing and combination of treatment methods is integral to successful wound healing. OBJECTIVE: This case combined NPWTi coupled with biofilm killing solution, hydrosurgical debridement to prepare the wound bed, and STSG to achieve epithelialization. To the knowledge of the authors of the present study, no previously published case report has combined these methods for treatment of a chronic VLU. CASE REPORT: This case report highlights a chronic VLU on the anteromedial ankle that he

Application of the CA330 cytokine adsorption cartridge for coupled plasma filtration adsorption therapy in severe acute pancreatitis-induced cytokine storm: A case report.

This case describes an 82-year-old male patient presenting with persistent upper abdominal colic, diagnosed as severe acute pancreatitis. The patient then suffered a cytokine storm, as well as renal dysfunction. Therefore, the patient underwent two sessions of coupled plasma filtration adsorption (CPFA) therapy utilising the CA330 cytokine adsorption cartridge as the adsorbent. The first CPFA session lasted 8 h, followed by a 4-h interval (during which continuous veno-venous haemodialysis therapy was provided), and the second 8-h CPFA session started. Due to family requests and comprehensive c

Efficacy and safety of RD2 Ver.02, a whole blood clot therapy, coupled with a minimally invasive procedure in pilonidal sinus: a phase II study.

BACKGROUND: PNS is caused by an infection in the sacrococcygeal area triggered by hair particle accumulation in skin tunnels, resulting in infection. Surgical options range from simple excision to complex flap constructions. Primary wound healing failure and recurrence rates contribute to the burden of PNS. RD2 Ver.02, a novel autologous whole-blood clot product, demonstrated safety and efficacy in treating complex cutaneous wounds and was investigated for the management of PNS. METHODS: A Phase II open-label, pilot, single-arm prospective study was conducted from May 2021 to May 2023 (Ethics

Induction of Carbodiimide Coupling of Alendronate to Chitosan with Samarium Entrapment and NaDyF4@NaYF4:Nd3+ in PVA Double-Layered Hydrogel for Photothermal Therapy and Bone Remodeling.

The combination of challenges associated with osteosarcoma treatment emerges from the inadequacy of conventional cancer therapies to heal the extensive bone defects generated following tumor excision. On the other hand, the bone-regeneration approach lacks in mitigating the risk of tumor recurrence. This therapeutic gap demands the necessity of a multifunctional approach that simultaneously inhibits cancer recurrence and promotes the process of bone regeneration. The extensively employed traditional photosensitizers display limited anticancer activity and lack regenerative properties. These co

Severe Hemolysis in a Patient With Erythrocytosis During Coupled Plasma Filtration Adsorption Therapy Was Prevented by Changing From Membrane-Based Technique to a Centrifuge-Based One.

Coupled plasma filtration adsorption (CPFA) usually adopts membrane to separate plasma from blood. Here, we reported a case with erythrocytosis experienced severe hemolysis and membrane rupture during CPFA, which was avoided by changing from membrane-based technique to a centrifuge-based one. A 66-year-old man was to receive CPFA for severe hyperbilirubinemia (total bilirubin 922 μmol/L, direct bilirubin 638 μmol/L) caused by obstruction of biliary tract. He had erythrocytosis (hemoglobin 230 g/L, hematocrit 0.634) for years because of untreated tetralogy of Fallot. Severe hemolysis and membra

Minicircle DNA-based gene therapy coupled with immune modulation permits long-term expression of α-L-iduronidase in mice with mucopolysaccharidosis type I.

Mucopolysaccharidosis type I (MPS I) is a lysosomal storage disease characterized by mutations to the α-L-iduronidase (IDUA) gene resulting in inactivation of the IDUA enzyme. The loss of IDUA protein results in the progressive accumulation of glycosaminoglycans within the lysosomes resulting in severe, multi-organ system pathology. Gene replacement strategies have relied on the use of viral or nonviral gene delivery systems. Drawbacks to these include laborious production procedures, poor efficacy due to plasmid-borne gene silencing, and the risk of insertional mutagenesis. This report demons

Helping with Outcomes for Low Desire (HOLD): Study protocol for a randomized clinical trial assessing a cognitive-behavioral couple therapy for sexual interest/arousal disorder.

BACKGROUND: A strong, satisfying sexual relationship-for which sexual desire and arousal can be key components-is often important for maintaining well-being in long-term romantic relationships. However, sexual interest/arousal disorder, defined by persistently low and distressing levels of sexual desire and/or arousal, is the most common sexual problem among women and gender-diverse people and is associated with psychological (e.g., depressive symptoms) and relational (e.g., lower relationship satisfaction) consequences. Partners of individuals with sexual interest/arousal disorder have also r

An innovative red-emitting nickel-doped carbon dot for simultaneous detection of Fe(III) and pyrophosphate ions, coupled with synergistic photothermal/photodynamic cancer therapy.

BACKGROUND: Multifunctional carbon dots (CDs) have gained prominence in biosensing, cell imaging, and nanomedicine due to their tunable fluorescence, excellent biocompatibility, and surface functionalizability. However, blue/green-emitting CDs suffer from limited tissue penetration and autofluorescence interference. Iron ions (Fe3+) and pyrophosphate ions (PPi) are crucial biomarkers in various biological processes, with deviations in their concentrations linked to various diseases including cancer. Therefore, the development of highly sensitive and selective sensors for Fe3+ and PPi detection

Bee venom-loaded EGFR-targeting peptide-coupled chitosan nanoparticles for effective therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma by inhibiting EGFR-mediated MEK/ERK pathway.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the world's most risky diseases due to the lack of clear and cost-effective therapeutic targets. Currently, the toxicity of conventional chemotherapeutic medications and the development of multidrug resistance is driving research into targeted therapies. The nano-biomedical field's potential for developing an effective therapeutic nano-sized drug delivery system is viewed as a significant pharmaceutical trend for the encapsulation and release of numerous anticancer therapies. In this regard, current research is centered on the creation of biodegradable
