Diagnosis of Epstein-Barr and cytomegalovirus infections using decision trees: an effective way to avoid antibiotic overuse in paediatric tonsillopharyngitis.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of tonsillopharyngitis is especially prevalent in children. Despite the fact that viruses cause the majority of infections, antibiotics are frequently used as a treatment, contrary to international guidelines. This is not only an inappropriate method of treatment for viral infections, but it also significantly contributes to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains. In this study, EBV and CMV-related tonsillopharyngitis were distinguished from other pathogens by using machine learning techniques to construct a classification tree based on clinical characteristics

Development and acceptability testing of decision trees for self-management of prosthetic socket fit in adults with lower limb amputation.

PURPOSE: The most common complaint lower limb prosthesis users report is inadequacy of a proper socket fit. Adjustments to the residual limb-socket interface can be made by the prosthesis user without consultation of a clinician in many scenarios through skilled self-management. Decision trees guide prosthesis wearers through the self-management process, empowering them to rectify fit issues, or referring them to a clinician when necessary. This study examines the development and acceptability testing of patient-centered decision trees for lower limb prosthesis users. METHODS: Decision trees

Hierarchical Deep Decision Tree-Based Network for Odontogenic Cystic Lesion Classification in CBCT Images.

Odontogenic cystic lesions (OCLs) are complex jaw abnormalities that require a precise diagnosis of the disease for treatment. Visual OCL diagnosis is commonly based on reviewing cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) to identify morpho-pathological features associated with specific lesion types in a hierarchical manner. Current state-of-the-art methods focus on extracting features from the image without any guidance beyond the lesion diagnosis, and do not fully leverage the hierarchical relationship between the lesion diagnosis and morphological features. In this study, we propose a hierarchica

Clinical Guidelines for the Surgical/Orthodontic Management of Impacted Maxillary Central Incisors Based on a Decision Tree.

Maxillary central incisors are critical to occlusal function, smile esthetics, and even one's self-image. Furthermore, their impaction at an early age could have harmful psychological consequences on the individual. Maxillary central incisors can be impacted due to early dentoalveolar trauma to the upper anterior region that displaces the incisor in formation and, in rare instances, tooth germs are deformed. The aftermath of trauma during primary dentition is seen later during mixed dentition. Other causes are either an impediment in the eruption pathway of the maxillary central incisor due to

A Decision Tree-Based Survival Analysis of Patients with a History of Inappropriate Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator Therapy.

Implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) improve survival in patients who are at risk of sudden death. However, inappropriate therapy is commonly given to ICD recipients, and this situation may be associated with an increased risk of death. This study aimed to construct a risk stratification scheme by using decision tree analysis in patients who received inappropriate ICD therapy.Mortality was calculated from a retrospective data analysis of a multicenter cohort involving 417 ICD recipients. Inappropriate therapy was defined as therapy for nonventricular arrhythmias, including sinus tach
