Low-set umbilicus in a pregnant woman with bladder pseudoexstrophy: A case report.

Bladder pseudoexstrophy is a rare form of bladder exstrophy. Bladder exstrophy occurs in 1 in every 30,000 to 50,000 live births. Because bladder pseudoexstrophy is asymptomatic, it may be undiagnosed even in adulthood. A 31-year-old woman with uterus bicornis unicollis and a low-set umbilicus underwent emergency cesarean delivery during the 37th week of pregnancy for chorioamnionitis. Perioperatively, asymptomatic anatomical abnormalities were identified, which included separated rectus abdominis muscles and diastasis of the symphysis pubis. The urinary tract was normal. The patient was diagn

Comparative Efficacy and Acceptability of Non-surgical Treatments with or without Exercise for Diastasis Recti Abdominis in Postpartum Women: A Network Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

BACKGROUND: Diastasis recti abdominis (DRA), commonly occurring in postpartum women, is not only an aesthetic issue but is also highly associated with functional impairments. Various conservative treatment modalities have been employed in clinical practice to alleviate DRA. However, the comparative efficacy of these non-surgical treatments for improving the inter-recti distance (IRD) remains to be determined. AIM: This current network meta-analysis (NMA) aims to compare the efficacy and acceptability of different non-surgical treatments with or without exercise for improving DRA in postpartum

The effect of visceral manipulation on Diastasis Recti Abdominis (DRA): A case series.

BACKGROUND: Diastasis recti abdominis (DRA) is a condition that affects many postpartum and older women, often due to pregnancy-related issues and heavy lifting. Published research on nonsurgical DRA treatment has primarily focused on exercise to correct or prevent this dysfunction. A survey of women's health physical therapists identified that visceral manipulation and other interventions are utilized to treat DRA. No literature exists to identify the specifics of visceral manipulation or its effect on DRA. STUDY DESIGN: This case series is a retrospective chart review of three female patien

[Anatomy and biomechanics of the distal radioulnar joint].

BACKGROUND: The functionality of the upper extremity is decisively based on rotation of the forearm. The rotation depends on the extent of motion of the distal radioulnar joint. Rotation enables complete and focused usability of the hand in order to cope with daily activities. The configuration of the distal radioulnar joint has developed over millions of years of evolution. ANATOMIC CONDITIONS: The triangular fibrocartilage complex is the crucial stabiliser of the latter joint since osseous structures are limited. The palmar and dorsal radioulnar ligaments belong to this complex. The superfi

Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in the Evaluation of the Rectus Abdominis.

The rectus abdominis (RA) muscle is a key muscle in the anterior abdominal wall, contributing to motion of trunk flexion, assisting with stabilization of the pelvis, and maintaining intra-abdominal pressure. Its integrity is essential for posture, respiration, and functional movement, and it is frequently implicated in clinical conditions such as abdominal wall hernias, rectus diastasis, muscle strains, and postoperative complications. Accurate evaluation of the RA is therefore critical for both diagnostic and rehabilitative purposes. Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSKUS) has emerged as a valuabl…

Concomitant Abdominoplasty and Repair of Midline Abdominal Wall Defects.

BACKGROUND: Diastasis recti and midline abdominal wall hernias are frequently encountered in patients undergoing abdominoplasty, particularly postpartum women and individuals following significant weight loss. The associated musculoaponeurotic laxity results in functional abdominal wall weakness and contour deformities. METHODS: We describe a surgical technique combining abdominoplasty with midline fascial repair, performed without mesh reinforcement. The procedure utilizes a modified overlapping Mayo double-suturing method to restore midline strength and contour. This paper presents a 39-yea

Reconstruction of traumatic transposition of the penis and scrotum and associated complex open abdominoperineal pelvic deformity with free innervated tensor fascia latae osteomyocutaneous flap.

Guidelines for the repair of full-thickness defects of the lower abdominal wall have been established. However, lower abdominal defects associated with traumatic bladder herniation and pubic symphyseal diastasis or bony loss have not been addressed. Poor abdominal wall contour, protuberance, and recurrent hernias are likely when there is discontinuity of the midline pelvis in association with full-thickness lower abdominal defects and visceral herniation. We devised an operation that would not only restore bony continuity by providing a vascularized bone flap but also simultaneously maintain t

Extrathoracic heart (ectopia cordis). Report of two cases and review of the literature.

We report 2 cases of extrathoracic heart (ectopia cordis) operated on a few hours after birth at Laennec Hospital, Paris. The first patient had an associated diastasis of the rectus muscles. The second one, in whom diagnosis was made by ultrasound during fetal life, had a normal abdominal wall. In both cases it was possible to accommodate the heart in the left pleural cavity after a wide dissection of the posterior mediastinum. Both babies, however, died soon after the operation. Double outlet right ventricle was found in both. We have reviewed those cases previously described and discuss the
