OBJECTIVE: To compare the safety and accuracy of three dry needling locations in the piriformis muscle using human donors.
DESIGN: Observational dissection study of embalmed human donors.
METHODS: A licensed physical therapist of 17 years clinical experience and 5 years teaching dry needling placed three needles in a medial, midpoint, and lateral location of 14 piriformis muscles of seven embalmed human donors. Block dissection allowed for observation of tissues the needles traversed and recording of the structures that the needles pierced.

The peritoneum was examined for the existence of a vaginal ring and the round ligament of the uterus was dissected through the inguinal region in eleven embalmed adult female cats. In all cats, there was no evidence of a peritoneal evagination into the inguinal canal. There was no vaginal ring and no vaginal process. The round ligament of the uterus passed through the inguinal canal and disintegrated in the fascia a short distance beyond the superficial inguinal ring.

In embalmed preparations, the antebrachial fascia in the lateral elbow region is shown to be deformed by load application to the triceps muscle. From this fascia, muscles arise which are primarily concerned with the extension of wrist and fingers. In the case of lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), the superficial site of attachment of these extensors at the lateral epicondyle is extremely painful. Triceps training may help to diminish (or prevent) this pain by altering the forces acting at the lateral epicondyle.

BACKGROUND: The primary aim of this study was to determine and compare the biomechanical properties of a fractured or intact rib after implant fixation on an embalmed thorax.
METHODS: Five systems were fixated on the bilateral fractured or intact (randomly allocated) 6th to 10th rib of five post-mortem embalmed human specimens. Each rib underwent a four-point bending test to determine the bending structural stiffness (Newton per m2), load to failure (Newton), failure mode, and the relative difference in bending structural stiffness and load to failure as compared to a non-fixated intact rib.

UNLABELLED: Pseudoaneurysms of the lumbar arteries following transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) are rare postoperative complications that usually occur around the transverse process. However, there are few detailed descriptions of the transverse branch and other branches of the dorsal branches at the L1-L4 disks.
STUDY DESIGN: Ten adult embalmed cadavers were anatomically studied.
OBJECTIVES: The purposes of the study were to describe the vascular distribution of the dorsal branches, especially the transverse branches, at the L1-L4 levels and provide information useful for TLIF.
