Activities of a range of macromolecular conjugates of daunorubicin against Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense in vitro and in vivo are described and compared to those of free daunorubicin. Conjugates tested were daunorubicin attached to bovine serum albumin by (i) a labile 'glutaraldehyde' linkage (D-BSAG), and (ii) a stable succinyl linkage (D-BSAS), daunorubicin covalently linked to agarose beads (D-AG), and daunorubicin adsorbed onto polyisobutylcyanoacrylate nanoparticles (D-PICA). PURPOSE: Although arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are typically benign lesions, massive ones can lead to severe complications, including heart failure. Notably, there is no standardized treatment for AVMs. Moreover, management of AVMs can be challenging when these lesions involve vital organ systems, such as the head and neck. N-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) has been used to embolise brain arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) for over 30 years. It is a mixed with lipiodol in varying proportions. Four patients underwent embolization therapy for hemorrhage from varices in the jejunal loop after choledochojejunostomy existing in hepatopetal collateral veins due to chronic extrahepatic portal vein obstruction through the afferent veins using microcoils and/or n-butyl cyanoacrylate. Endoscopic injection of N-Butyl-2-cyanoacrylate is a widely accepted treatment for esophagogastric varices. This procedure is commonly associated with minor complications which include transient pyrexia and abdominal discomfort. Serious vascular complications secondary to systemic embolization of cyanoacrylate have rarely been reported. We describe the CT findings of extensive splenic infarction in a patient following cyanoacrylate injection for gastric varices.

Vascular complications after head and neck surgical procedures are rare but can life-threatening. A pseudoaneurysm may appear weeks or months after the initial injury and may be difficult to diagnose. The authors report the case of a 43-year-old man involved in a motor vehicle accident presenting with multiple facial fractures, which after surgical treatment presented episodes of bleeding. After an angiography was performed, a pseudoaneurysm of the facial artery was detected. The patient later underwent endovascular embolization and had a satisfactory resolution.
