BACKGROUND: Sweet syndrome (SS) is a rare skin condition that is classically idiopathic in etiology, but can also be triggered by malignancy, drug reaction, or infection. Both chronic hepatitis C infection and antiviral agents for the treatment of hepatitis C have been postulated to be possible triggers of SS.
OBJECTIVE: Herein, we present a case of SS in a patient with untreated chronic hepatitis C and cirrhosis but no other significant comorbidities.

The dyschromatoses are a group of pigmentary disorders characterized clinically by mixed and often guttate hypopigmented and hyperpigmented lesions. There are many conditions that present with dyschromatosis, including genodermatoses, inflammatory skin diseases, infections, drug and chemical use, and nutritional disorders. Some conditions have extracutaneous features. Poikiloderma (a combination of hypo- and hyperpigmentation with telangiectasia and atrophy) must be excluded. In this article, we describe the dyschromatoses typically presenting in infancy and childhood, most of which are genode

BACKGROUND: Blastomycosis is a chronic granulomatous and suppurative mycosis caused by the fungus Blastomyces dermatitidis. This is a dimorphic fungus, which exists as a non-pathogenic mold in mycelial form in nature and converts to pathogenic yeast at body temperature. Infection is acquired by either inhalation or inoculation. We report a case of blastomycosis with severe involvement of the scalp, face, and neck, with no evidence of systemic involvement.
METHODS: Biopsy specimen was stained with hematoxylin and eosin, periodic acid-Schiff (PAS), PAS with diastase digestion, and Grocott. Cult

We report a patient presenting with lichenoid plaques on exposed skin who had the metabolic features of porphyria cutanea tarda (PCT). Histology of lesional skin demonstrated a lichenoid inflammatory cell infiltrate in the upper dermis, while direct immunofluorescence revealed immunoreactive colloid bodies. Monochromator irradiation testing demonstrated photosensitivity in the visible spectrum consistent with porphyria. Solar-simulated irradiation induced a papular reaction with lichenoid histological changes. We propose that this atypical presentation of PCT may reflect a lichenoid tissue res

We report a 54-year-old male patient who developed an unusual form of generalized drug eruption. He had pain and breathlessness on the left chest wall. He had history of taking several drugs at private clinics under a diagnosis of herpes zoster. Two weeks later he had a generalized skin eruption. Examination showed multiple variable sized, mild pruritic, erythematous macules and papules on the face and upper extremities. Skin lesions take the form of a clinically consistent with disseminated superficial actinic porokeratosis (DSAP). Methylprednisolone 16 mg, astemisole 10 mg, oxatomide 60 mg w

The treatment of scleromyxedema has been largely ineffective. We report improvement of scleromyxedema with myopathy after treatment with isotretinoin, 40 mg twice a day. We review other therapeutic modalities used for this disorder and discuss properties of isotretinoin that may have contributed to the favorable response.

CONCLUSION: Wearing face masks to protect from COVID-19 can increase adverse facial dermatoses and exacerbate underlying dermatology conditions; however, several preventative measures may be taken.

Facial neutrophilic dermatosis is a relatively recent and rare entity. Herein, we report an original case with a clinical appearance of crusty pyoderma gangrenosum and limited face involvement, classifying it as neutrophilic dermatosis (ND) of the face. The latter is an infrequent entity and forms part of the ND spectrum. The few reported cases in the literature are characterized by a restricted distribution on the face, as in our case. Nevertheless, this entity remains controversial: some consider it a variant of Sweet's syndrome; others see it as a truly independent entity. Matthews et al. r

A 34-year-old African-American woman with a past medical history of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hypertension presented to the clinic with a blister that was appearing about once a month on her nose or cheeks over the past 8 months. The blister was occasionally pru- ritic and would resolve spontaneously. At the time of presentation, the patient had only post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation on her nasal dorsum. The patient had photos of the blister on her phone to show what it originally looked like (Figure 1).
