Primary aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a cystic bone neoplasm characterized by disease-defining gene fusions involving the USP6/Tre2 gene. The literature describing gnathic ABC is limited. This case report describes a 27-year-old man presenting with a long-standing left-sided facial asymmetry. Multi-detector computed tomography imaging demonstrated a large expansile lesion positioned within the left condylar head. The lesion was biopsied and resected. The specimen showed a giant cell-rich cystic neoplasm, with fibrous tissue lined by multinucleated giant cells. Next-generation sequencing confir

UNLABELLED: Carcinosarcoma (true malignant mixed tumor) is rare in salivary gland neoplasms. Even rarer is a carcinosarcoma arising from a preexisting pleomorphic adenoma.
CASE: a 49-year-old woman was admitted with left neck pain. Computed tomography and USG-examination revealed a mass originating from left parotid gland. The patient undergone total parotidectomy with facial nerve preservation and then irradiation and chemioteraphy. Clinical and histologic date revealed it had developed from a preexisting pleomorphic adenoma.
CONCLUSION: microscopic examination showed and neoplasm comprised

Apocrine fibroadenoma (AFA), considered a counterpart of fibroadenoma of breast, is a rare cutaneous apocrine neoplasm occurring almost exclusively in women. We describe a 75-year-old man who presented with a red dome-shaped papule near the nasal bridge. The tumor was composed of numerous tubular, cystic, and partially branching lumina and struts of epithelial cells oriented perpendicular to the skin surface, with which it connected through infundibula. The epithelial strands were embedded in fibrocollagenous stroma. These histopathological features are consistent with AFA. The cytokeratin pro

Salivary gland tumors represent 3-10% of all head and neck neoplasms. Most of the tumours are benign with parotid gland being most commonly affected. Surgical intervention in the form of parotidectomy forms the mainstay of treatment. Among the various postoperative complications that may occur after parotidectomy, facial nerve weakness is the most dreaded one for both the surgeon as well as the patient. In the literature, the incidence of transient facial weakness after parotid surgery ranges from 10 to 68%, and long-term dysfunction ranges from 0 to 19%. Apart from injury mechanisms such as n

Kimura's disease (KD) is a benign, rare and chronic inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology and it affects subcutaneous tissues, lymph nodes, and salivary glands. The clinical manifestation of cases reported is mainly small neoplasms or enlarged lymph nodes, while cases for large masses are rarely reported. This case reveals a female patient of KD with large masses in the head and neck region. The scope of the tumor is huge, which seriously affects the facial shape and psychology of the patient, thereby affecting the daily life of the patient. Cowden disease (Cowden syndrome) refers to PTEN-associated hamartoma tumor syndromes. It arises due to a mutation in the phosphatase and tensin homolog gene, one of the main functions of which is cell cycle regulation. The presence of a mutation in the gene leads to uncontrolled cell growth, and patients have a lifelong increased risk of neoplasms of various degrees of malignancy. This article presents a clinical case of Cowden syndrome with an early debut at the age of 7 years. The combination of macrocephaly (SDS of head circumference >2) with various skin manifestations (facial trichilem

The cysts of the parotid gland are very rare lesions of congenital or acquired aetiopathogenesis. In most cases, the symptom is an unilateral painless swelling in the area of the parotid without any fixation to the overlying skin or any involvement of the facial nerve. These must be distinguished from neoplasms with a similar clinical presentation or neoplasms with a cystic component. Making the right preoperative diagnosis can be extremely difficult but the adequate therapy remains the superficial parotidectomy. However the final diagnosis is established histopathologically. The precise histo

We report the case of a 44-year-old man who presented with a chondromyxoid fibroma (CMF) of the sphenoid sinus, which filled the sinus and clinically and radiologically resembled a mucocele. Chondromyxoid fibromas are the least common cartilaginous neoplasms of bone, typically occurring in the metaphysis of long bones. They have occasionally been described in the facial bones, usually the mandible and maxilla, and rarely involve the paranasal sinuses. Chondromyxoid fibroma displays a relatively unique histological appearance, with characteristic lobulation, with spindle to stellate cells embed

The vestibular schwannoma is a benign intracranial tumor of the myelin-forming cells of the vestibulocochlear nerve or cranial nerve VIII. It comprises 8-10% of all intracranial neoplasms in adults. It originates in the vestibular portion of the cranial nerve VIII and it is located in the cerebellopontine angle. This disorder is characterized by ipsilateral hearing loss, tinnitus, disturbed sense of balance and altered gait, facial numbness, muscle weakness or ipsilateral paralysis. This report presents the magnetic resonance imaging of a patient with this rare condition.

BACKGROUND: The differential diagnosis of facial anesthesia is vast. This may be secondary to trauma, neoplasm, both intracranial and extracranial, infection, and neurologic disease. When evaluating a patient with isolated facial anesthesia, the head and neck surgeon often thinks of adenoid cystic carcinoma, which has a propensity for perineural invasion and spread. When one thinks of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma with or without unknown primary, the typical presentation involves dysphagia, odynophagia, weight loss, hoarseness, or more commonly, a neck mass. Squamous cell carcinoma pre

Lipoma is a common benign soft-tissue neoplasm derived from mature adipose tissue neoplasm, but its presence in the oral and pharyngeal region is relatively uncommon. Oral lipoma was first described by Roux in 1848 as "yellow epulis." It has an incidence rate of about 1%-4% of all benign oral lesions, with a prevalence rate of about 0.0002%. Fibrolipoma is an extremely rare subtype of lipoma which accounts for 1.6% of all facial lipomas. Specific anatomic locations of occurrence within the oral and maxillofacial region include the parotid region, buccal mucosa, lips, submandibular region, tong

BACKGROUND: Parapharyngeal space (PPS) tumors are rare, accounting for 0.5% of all head and neck neoplasms. PPS tumors are difficult to diagnose due to limited presenting signs and symptoms and because of their location deep within the neck.
METHODS AND RESULTS: A 60-year-old woman presented with complaints of otalgia, which appeared to be consistent with a temporomandibular disorder (TMD). Due to disproportionate symptoms, an MRI of the temporomandibular joints was ordered. The MRI revealed a mass within the PPS, which was later diagnosed as a mucoepidermoid carcinoma. Few neoplasms are unique to the sinonasal tract, but sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma and olfactory neuroblastoma are malignant tumors which require unique management. Due to the rarity of these tumors, practicing pathologists are not always aware of their distinctive clinical, radiographic, histologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular features. These cases are frequently submitted for consultation, further suggesting the diagnostic difficulties inherent to these tumors. Specifically, olfactory neuroblastoma is a neoplasm that can histologically mimic many tumors within the sinonasal tra

The standard surgical procedure for treating the parotid gland's recurrent pleomorphic adenoma (RPA) is parotidectomy with facial nerve preservation (FN). Treatment of RPA remains challenging since controversies occur regarding recurrence, degree of revision surgery, postoperative radiation, and difficulty in conserving the FN. A retrospective review of patient's medical records treated for benign parotid neoplasms was conducted between 2017 and 2022 to identify individuals who underwent surgery for RPA. Demographic information, surgical intervention details, pre-and postoperative facial nerve
