A 30-year-old woman undergoing an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment for tubal infertility and for whom no oocyte was retrieved at the puncture ("white puncture") presented an ectopic pregnancy. The patient was asymptomatic except some bleeding events reported for several days prior to the puncture. AIM: Endometriosis is a leading cause of pelvic pain and infertility. Implantation of endometrial cells to the peritoneal surface can lead to a spectrum of disease severity with the most severe causing extensive pelvic adhesions and anatomic distortion. Infertility can result from anatomic abnormalities as well proinflammatory cellular and immune factors. Treatment options for women seeking pregnancy include surgical removal and/or in vitro fertilization. The aim of this study was to review current literature on the pathogenesis of endometriosis and treatment options for infertility.

A retrospective study was designed to examine whether the presence of a hydrosalpinx influenced pregnancy outcome following in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment in stimulated cycles. In a 32 year old patient 14 eggs were harvested and inseminated with donor semen. Six embryos were transferred resulting in a triplet-pregnancy. In spite of a septic disease three preterm but healthy children were born by caesarean section 199 days after ET (male 1620.0; female 1180.0; male 1560.0). Up to nowadays there is not any handicap. We don't know a general but safe method for avoiding multiple pregnancies.

Between December 1986 and November 1987, 588 transvaginal sonographically guided oocyte retrievals using a vaginal transducer were performed for in-vitro fertilization. All follicles were accessible. No complication occurred except for one case of pelviperitonitis in a patient with preoperatively diagnosed sactosalpinx. A 25 year old patient was accepted on the in-vitro fertilization programme at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town and her first IVF cycle resulted in a pregnancy.
