INTRODUCTION: The purpose is to compare videokeratometric data (Fourier series harmonic analysis and wave-front analysis) in eyes with ectatic corneal disease (keratoconus; pellucid marginal corneal degeneration [PMCD]) and to determine parameters for early diagnosis and distinction of keratoconus and PMCD.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: 13 eyes with PMCD, 32 eyes with keratoconus and 18 healthy eyes were included. Computerized videokeratographic methods were assessed, using Fourier series harmonic analysis, Zernike coefficients and eccentricity.

There have been limited reports on mastication speed during cattle rumination. The objective of this study was to establish a method to detect mastication speed based on data obtained during rumination through the use of a 3-axis accelerometer attached to the neck. A 3-axis accelerometer was attached to 6 dry Holstein cattle. OBJECTIVE: To study the periodicity of leptospirosis incidence.
METHODS: Data of leptospirosis epidemics in Yichang City collected during the past 38 years from 1960 to 1997 were analyzed with periodic graphics method.
RESULTS: Cause-specific incidence rate of leptospirosis was 15.43 per 100,000 in average, with an epidemic interval of 10 years, with statistical significance in periodic vibration (J = 4.179, P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION: The results mentioned above provided scientific basis for the effective control and prevention of the disease.

The nycterohemeral eating and ruminating patients were studied in 6 heifers given ad libitum access to grass or corn silage in a 2 period cross-over design. Rhythm components (no of cycles/24 h) were characterized by the finite Fourier transform of hourly means of the 24 h mastication activities. Rhythm components 1, 3 and 4 contributed considerably to explaining the total dispersion of 24 h eating and ruminating mastication series.

The article considers the problem of dividing the encephalography data into two time series, that generated by the brain and that generated by other electrical sources located in the human head. The magnetic encephalograms and magnetic resonance images of the head were recorded in the Center for Neuromagnetism at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Data obtained at McGill University and Montreal University were also used. Recordings were made in a magnetically shielded room and the gradiometers were designed to suppress external noise, making it possible to eliminate them from the data analysis.
