INTRODUCTION: SMART (self-management and recovery training) recovery is a mutual-help group that supports and sustains recovery from addiction, including substance use. Meetings are moderated by trained facilitators who manage group dynamics and guide members through a 4-point program. Nonetheless, sociocultural factors can influence group processes, shaping facilitation style and delivery of SMART Recovery. Our study explored facilitation strategies used in Singapore to foster member engagement and retention.
METHODS: In-depth qualitative interviews with 18 participants (14 members and four

Humans' abilities for complex social learning and collective adaptation stand out across species. Yet it is largely unknown how people integrate dynamically changing personal and social cues in realistic environments, resulting in collective intelligence or maladaptive behavior. Here, we report an online 3D immersive-reality experiment in which participants (n = 621) search for and track a mobile resource under realistic visual-spatial constraints. Participants complete the task either alone or in groups of five with different types of social information and resource speeds. Contrasting earlie

The Russian invasion of Ukraine caused a wave of emigration, with vast numbers of people fleeing Russia due to political persecution or safety concerns. The study explored how anti-war Russian emigrants negotiate their national identity and moral responsibility amid ingroup wrongdoing. Previous research has shown that having a stigmatized identity can lead to self-group distancing. Yet those studies concerned groups that can be characterized as victims of violence or discrimination, and there is a lack of research on identity performance and negotiation of people who represent perpetrator grou

This study examined the role of group composition in an emotional cultivation intervention (i.e., BEAR group: Belief reframing, Emotional consequence awareness, Action control, and Regulating emotion flexibly through culturally appropriate strategies), a manualized group counseling and psychotherapy model developed for Taiwanese youth's emotion regulation difficulties. Guided by the Eastern philosophical principle of the "unity of knowing and acting" (Y. Wang, 1527/2006), BEAR groups integrate understanding emotion connotations (knowing) and cultivating emotion strategies (acting) as interdepe

Grievance-the feeling of being or having been collectively wronged by an outgroup-has gained attention in majority groups facing perceived status threats or norm transgressions. Although grievance can elicit negative emotions, its role in shaping violence-related tendencies remains unclear. This research examines the emotional pathways linking grievance to violence justification and aggressive intergroup inclinations among majority group members. Across three studies (correlational, field-based with active protesters and experimental) within the Catalonia-Spanish State conflict, we explore whe

BACKGROUND: Engaging in health behaviors often occurs within a social context. This recognition has led to a notable growth in intervention approaches designed explicitly to involve a "close other," often referred to as dyadic interventions. Yet, there has been surprisingly little discussion of what makes an intervention dyadic.
METHODS: To address this gap, we developed the DYADIC meta-framework (Describe Your focAl Dyadic Intervention Components) based on iterative discussions.
RESULTS: The DYADIC meta-framework delineates 4 dimensions that capture distinct ways an intervention can be dyad

Innovative products that receive favorable reviews but never catch on with consumers belong to a category known as the "best game no one played." We combined an adoption threshold model with an opinion dynamics model to examine reasons why certain high-quality products and ideas never achieve expected levels of commercial success. Computational social scientists use opinion dynamics models to analyze consensus formation, and adoption threshold models to study acceptance scenarios. However, most studies based on the first type focus on opinion exchanges without discussing follow-up actions, and

PURPOSE: This integrative review synthesizes research on sports psychological interventions in basketball, critically evaluates the methodological rigor of the existing evidence base, and proposes an integrated framework linking individual competitive state and team spirit.
METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted across Web of Science, PubMed, and PsycINFO using a Boolean strategy combining terms related to basketball, psychological interventions, and performance outcomes. The search yielded 991 records; following duplicate removal and eligibility screening, 151 studies were inc

The most important resource for an organization's success is still its human capital. Despite being the primary driver of organizational success, human resources' motivation and interpersonal dynamics are frequently taken into account independently of structural design. But in this paradigm, integrating structural and motivational theories is considered to be necessary to comprehend organizational behavior. The study offers a theoretical synthesis by applying McGregor's theories X and Y to Mintzberg's five organizational components-strategic apex, middle line, operating core, technostructure,

Since the early Holocene, western and central Europe was inhabited by a genetically distinct group of Western Hunter-Gatherers (WHGs). This group was eventually replaced and assimilated by the incoming Neolithic farmers. The western Atlantic façade was home to some of the last Mesolithic sites of mainland Europe, represented by the iconic open-air sites at Hoedic and Téviec in southern Brittany, France. These sites are known for the unusually well-preserved and rich burials. Genomic studies of Mesolithic European hunter-gatherers have been limited to single or a few individuals per site and ou

Identity fusion is a strong form of group alignment, in which individuals experience a visceral sense of oneness with the group, motivating extreme forms of pro-group action. However, little is known about the emergence and development of identity fusion across the lifespan, largely due to the absence of validated assessment tools for children. The Dynamic Identity Fusion Index (DIFI) has proven to be an effective and efficient measure of identity fusion in adults and the present study aims to validate its use in children. Our findings indicate that fusion with 'own family' versus an unfamilia

There is substantial evidence that positive intergroup contact can reduce prejudice. Most everyday interactions, however, are not deliberately structured to be positive, and individuals do not always engage in intergroup contact even when there is opportunity. The present research adopts a qualitative approach to understand how youth negotiate everyday contact with outgroup friends and acquaintances in the ethnically diverse city of Bradford, England. We explore how youth intergroup interactions manifest in everyday life, how urban spaces facilitate or inhibit them, and the psychological proce

INTRODUCTION: Research with Expert Advisors on Drug Use (READU) is a community-engaged research collaborative of people with lived and living experience, clinicians, and academic researchers. We sought to evaluate the challenges and rewards of the partnership model.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using the Peer Engagement Process Evaluation framework, the READU team collaborated on generating a list of focus group topics. All (n = 8) active team members participated in a focus group. Thematic analysis was used to identify key ideas.
RESULTS: Five main themes were identified. "Collaborative Research

The present study examined the roles of interconnectedness and mindfulness in collective action participation and the motivations underlying the participation. Two studies were conducted. In Study 1, 377 participants completed measures of mindfulness, interconnectedness, collective action intention and participation at baseline, with 308 and 279 participants completing follow-up assessments 1 and 2 months later, respectively. Results showed that after accounting for baseline mindfulness, baseline interconnectedness has an indirect effect on collective action participation at 2-month follow-up

Many contemporary movements confront existing power structures while experimenting with alternative social relations-a dynamic often discussed as prefigurative politics. Yet social psychology has prioritized explaining why people participate over examining what unfolds through collective action. This study examines how 16 participants made sense of their participation in Chile's 2019 social explosion. Using reflexive thematic analysis of in-depth interviews, informed by the elaborated social identity model, we examine whether aspects of their involvement were understood in prefigurative terms

Given the central role of friendships for adolescents social and academic needs and importance of identifying effective interventions to promote these outcomes, the present study examined interpersonal mechanisms through which a cooperative learning intervention changed adolescent friendship network dynamics related to self-perceived peer belonging and rejection. Specifically, we tested whether friendship network selection and influence on peer belonging and rejection varied in the intervention vs. control schools. It also examined whether the intervention promoted selection of intergroup frie

Healthcare systems and the scientific community are increasingly recognizing the need for multidisciplinary, inter-organizational perspectives and skill sets to tackle the most pressing challenges of our time to improve human health. However, as our approach to scientific inquiry is evolving, our methods of working across teams remain largely unchanged. Using a case example of a human-centered design project focused on improving care transitions during reentry to the community from incarceration, this paper details the importance and function of visualized shared mental models for multidiscipl

Inter-organizational networks are increasingly used to address complex health challenges, yet little is known about how "hub" organizations at the center of such networks cultivate relational processes that enable network effectiveness. Drawing on organizational network and collective leadership theories, we examined the relational processes that a structurally central hub organization used to influences a multi-sector network. We used in-depth qualitative methods to study a local health department that served as hub of a network of over 25 organizations establishing new behavioral health cris

BACKGROUND: Frailty and multimorbidity are common among patients in geriatric rehabilitation care (GRC). Proper care of these patients involves multiple professionals which requires optimal interprofessional collaboration to provide the best possible support. Interprofessional collaboration (IPC) goes beyond multi-professional collaboration. It requires professionals to think beyond the expertise of their own discipline and work on joint outcomes in which the patient is actively involved. This study describes the development of the GRC teams of an elderly care organization towards the IPC.

BACKGROUND: The death of a child due to cancer constitutes one of the most devastating experiences for parents and is associated with profound emotional, relational, and existential consequences. Pediatric psycho-oncology highlights the need for interventions that go beyond symptom reduction and address grief as a complex process involving emotional expression, social connection, and meaning reconstruction. However, qualitative research exploring parents' lived experiences of grief-focused group therapy remains limited.
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the impact of therapeutic group in
