We report the case of a patient in whom lichen nitidus with hemorrhage was found on the palm and the thigh. Histopathologically, the small vessels in the lesions showed extensive changes and were increased in number. The capillary walls revealed degenerative changes with extravasation of erythrocytes. On electron microscopy, amorphous, electron-dense deposits were observed along the outside of the endothelial cells. These findings can explain the presence of the hemorrhagic changes. We describe this as a case of purpuric lichen nitidus.

Pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) is a rare disease affecting both males and females. The aetiology is unknown, but it has an ill-defined relationship with psoriasis. Within the spectrum of PRP certain disease patterns are recognized, and regarded by many as helpful prognostic indicators. Griffiths has suggested a clinically based classification based on a series of 98 patients seen at St John's Hospital, London between 1950 and 1972 (Table 1). Classical type 1 PRP is an erythematous squamous disorder typically showing follicular hyperkeratosis, perifollicular erythema and sharply demarcated isla

A 67-year-old man presented with discrete mucinous papules on the scalp and fingers, and bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome. Both features remitted spontaneously within several months. The acral distribution, and histopathological features, were in keeping with the recently described acral persistent papular mucinosis. Involvement of the scalp, however, has not previously been described, and transient mucin deposition is unusual. The history of bilateral carpal tunnel compression raises the possibility of extracutaneous involvement, not previously reported in this group of patients.

We encountered a case of distinctive palmar-plantar erythema with desquamation of the fingers in a patient receiving high-dose mercaptopurine combined with allopurinol. He was receiving 400 mg/d of mercaptopurine with 200 mg/d of allopurinol when a painful, livid erythema involving his hands and feet developed. Over the ensuing 24 hours, desquamation of the distal fingertips was noted. The mercaptopurine was discontinued and the patient was treated with topical fluocinonide ointment under occlusion. Over the next 96 hours, the erythema and pain resolved entirely. To date, this is the eighth ca

Patients commonly present to their general practitioner with swellings of the hand. These include a variety of diagnoses with certain lesions (for example, ganglion) being more common than others. Some may even be familiar as they are often site specific. For those that are not routinely seen, or for those that look suspicious, referral to a hand surgeon is usually customary. This article aims to provide general practitioners with clear and concise information and terms of reference on the common hand swellings that they may encounter.

We report a case of tinea manuum bullosa in a 36-year-old male, a crop and livestock farmer by trade. The lesion, resembling contact dermatitis, was located in the palm of the right hand. We isolated Trichophyton verrucosum. No other skin lesion was detected. Blood chemistry and immunology test results were normal. Treatment with terbinafine 250 mg day(-1) led to clinical and mycological healing.

The NUCLEAR FACTOR Y (NF-Y) transcription factor family plays a crucial regulatory role in various aspects of plant development, physiological responses, and light signaling pathways. Nevertheless, there are limited reports on the characteristics and functions of NF-Ys in orchids. This study identified the NF-Y gene family in four orchids (Gastrodia elata, Gastrodia menghaiensis, Platanthera guangdongensis, and Platanthera zijinensis) and analyzed their structural domains, physicochemical properties, phylogenetic relationships, gene collinearity, and the cis-elements in their promoter region.

Milia-like idiopathic calcinosis cutis (MICC) is a very rare dermatological disorder characterized by multiple whitish to skin colored, milia-like papules, mostly found on the hands. MICC can disappear spontaneously by adulthood; therefore, its early recognition is crucial to avoiding unnecessary interventions. Herein, we present a case of MICC in a 6-year-old girl with Down syndrome.
