The repair process of external root resorption (ERR) and the role of retention mechanics in enhancing ERR repair were studied on eight Macac … showed an increase in pulp stones but no formation of tertiary dentin. The apical area responded by hypercementosis in the form of apical occlusion and a displaced pulp canal. The application of a fixed retention device is recommended in light of accelerated apposition of repair cementum during the retention period. However, increased formation of Sharpey's fiber …

OBJECTIVE: The dental and periodontal impact of GH/IGF-1 hypersecretion has been poorly investigated until now. Our aim is to precisely desc … thick gingival biotype was increased (9/29). No case of generalized gingival hypertrophy or diffuse hypercementosis was observed. According to the Add-GOHAI score, only 8/26 patients had a satisfactory OHRQoL. This parameter was correlated to the acromegaly-specific quality of life according to the AcroQoL score. Interestingly, 11/29 patients had bulky oral bony …

Secondary retention refers to the cessation of eruption of a tooth after emergence. This may be the result of pathological changes in the periodontal ligament. The aim of this study was to describe the morphological and histological aspects of the radicular surface of secondarily retained permanent molars. The roots of 12 secondarily retained molars and two control molars, were examined by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and light microscopy (LM) in order to analyse the occurrence and localisation of ankylosis. With SEM it was observed that the root surface of retained molars showe

The aim of this article was to describe imaging aspects of concrescence analyzed by three imaging modalities. A second molar joined together with a third molar was imaged using digital periapical radiography, cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and micro-computed tomography (Micro-CT). On periapical radiograph, the mesial root of the third molar is superimposed on the distal root of the second molar. On CBCT images, a large cementum union between bulbous roots was detected, confirming the diagnosis of concrescence. On micro-CT images, the cementum union appeared limited to the apical third of

For restorations on teeth involving invasion of the supracrestal tissue attachment (biological width), as well as for lack of ferrule effect … ns and contraindications for each purpose; major contraindications include inflammation, ankylosis, hypercementosis, vertical root fracture, and root proximity. Further studies are necessary to elucidate the long-term stability of orthodontically extruded teeth and the supporting bone and soft tissue that followed them.

UNLABELLED: Paget's disease of bone, although common in the long bones and pelvis, is less common in the head and neck. A 20-year follow-up is reported of a patient who was diagnosed with Paget's disease following the investigation of her initial oral complaint. Following surgical extraction of two teeth in her maxilla, the sockets have failed to heal, despite numerous attempted interventions. This case highlights both the cranio-maxillofacial and oral manifestations of Paget's disease of bone, its effects on surgical exodontia and the possible effects of bisphosphonate therapy.

Secondary retention refers to the cessation of eruption of a tooth after emergence neither due to a physical barrier in the path of eruption nor as a result of an abnormal position. In this study, the clinical and radiographic features of 81 secondary retained permanent molars in a group of 53 patients were evaluated. Retained molars removed for therapeutic reasons (n = 38) were examined histologically to detect any areas of ankylosis. The first molars in the mandible and maxilla were most frequently affected. The mean infraocclusion at the patients' first visit was 4.3 +/- 1.9 mm. After 6 mon

There are few reports on the apical and … stem and periapically), widened periodontal space, periapical sclerosis, apical clubbing, cementoma/hypercementosis, lamina dura loss, associated sinusitis and sinus mucosal swelling. An apical infection grading system was created to give each tooth a score. Hounsfield units were used to measure the density of the endodontic, apical and periapical regions. The fr …

There is a resurgence of interest in coronectomy for the management of mandibular third molars because it has a low risk of injury to the inferior dental nerve. However, there is concern that the root that is left in place will eventually become a source of infection. We describe the histological evaluation of 26 consecutive symptomatic coronectomy roots in 21 patients. All roots had vital tissue in the pulp chamber and there was no evidence of periradicular inflammation. Persistent postoperative symptoms related predominantly to inflammation of the soft tissue, which was caused by partially e

A 26-year-old mule gelding was evaluated for chronic weight loss and decreased appetite. The mule had been losing weight and intermittently hypophagic for approximately 7 months. Laboratory analysis of whole blood and plasma identified severe total hypercalcemia, marked hypophosphatemia, markedly increased parathyroid hormone concentration, and marked lymphocytosis. A sestimibi scan intended to identify parathyroid gland tissue was nondiagnostic. Results of flow cytometry and PCR for antigen receptor rearrangement (PARR) were consistent with a B cell lymphoproliferative disorder, likely chroni
