AbstractPediatric dentists rely on access to hospital operating rooms for safe, effective, and humane delivery of dental care. The children who benefit most from dental treatment in a hospital operating room are those who are very young, have dental anxieties or phobias, are precommunicative or noncommunicative, need extensive or invasive dental treatments, or have special healthcare needs. Diminishing access to hospital operating rooms for pediatric dental treatment has become an escalating problem in contemporary times. OBJECTIVES: Treatment of odontogenic sinusitis (ODS) due to apical periodontitis (AP) is highly successful when both dental treatment and endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) are performed. Variation exists in the literature with regard to types and timing of dental treatments and ESS when managing ODS. This study modeled expected costs of different primary dental and sinus surgical treatment pathways for ODS due to AP.
STUDY DESIGN: Decision-tree economic model.
METHODS: Decision-tree models were created based on cost and treatment success probabilities. Using Medicare and consumer online databas

The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of dental caries and the use of dental services in a pediatric population of Mexican-American migrant workers. The results were compared with the Mexican-American child population from the Hispanic Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (HHANES). One hundred thirty three-to-sixteen-year-old children participated in the study. The children who were born in Mexico and those who spoke Spanish had seen the dentist less often and had a higher incidence of decayed teeth than those who were born in the US and than those who spoke English (p <

In this context, dysphagia rehabilitation has become a critical issue affecting quality of life and survival. With nearly 30% of the population aged ≥65 years, Japan has developed a distinctive dysphagia rehabilitation model characterized by interprofessional collaboration and dental involvement. This narrative review describes its historical evolution and structural characteristics. Methods: This narrative review employed a

Oral health is important for the overall health of an individual, particularly older adults. However, a number of obstacles frequently prevent older people from receiving timely and appropriate dental care. These obstacles are intricate and multifaceted, involving systemic diseases, cognitive elements, and psychological, financial, and educational issues. Dementia and Alzheimer's disease are examples of cognitive impairments that can make it difficult for an elderly person to seek or cooperate with dental treatment. Additional psychological factors that decrease care-seeking behaviour include

Providing health services to sparsely populated, geographically isolated areas was a major challenge in many Canadian provinces before the advent of universal hospital insurance in the late 1950s, and universal physician insurance in the late 1960s. The task was especially daunting during the interwar depression years. Nonetheless, from 1924 to 1942, Alberta's Department of Public Health sponsored an itinerant Travelling Clinic during the summer which conducted physical examinations, dental examinations and treatment, tonsillectomies and other minor surgery, and vaccination against smallpox to
