BACKGROUND: Since 2011, Taiwan's National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) issued a regulation on the reimbursement to anti-osteoporosis medications (AOMs). BACKGROUND: There is a trend towards decentralisation of laboratory tests by means of Point-of-Care testing (POCT). Within hospitals, Belgian law requires a POCT policy, coordinated by the clinical laboratory. There is however no legal framework for POCT performed outside the hospital: no reimbursement, no compulsory quality monitoring and no limits nor control on the prices charged to the patient. INTRODUCTION: A growing number of surgical treatments are available for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), each with distinct clinical profiles and resource demands. Wide variations in cost and reimbursement are understood to exist because of hospital-insurer negotiations, but are rarely quantified.
