Amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide, the main pathogenic peptide in Alzheimer's disease, has been shown to induce an increase in cytoplasmic calcium concentration (CCC). In the current study, we explored the cytotoxic signal transduction pathway in 42-amino-acid Aβ (Aβ42)-treated HeLa cells in relation to the increase in CCC. The increase in CCC was prominent in cells treated twice with oligomeric Aβ42. In this work, we have employed an intramolecular charge transfer-based DMN colorimetric probe for the rapid naked-eye detection of cyanide ions in solution as well as real water samples. Oxidation of inorganic contaminants, such as thiocyanate and cyanide ions, by ozone in water has improved significantly in the presence of solid catalysts based on nickel and cobalt oxides supported on alumina. It can be considered that the hydroxyl radical produced by catalytic decomposition of ozone over the catalyst's surface was responsible for the oxidation of the adsorbed ions. Ozonation efficiency was increased by 20% in the presence of catalytic systems in particular for those systems containing both nickel and cobalt oxide.

Protective antigen (PA), the receptor-binding moiety of anthrax toxin, contains two calcium atoms buried within domain 1(') (amino acid residues 168-258).
