Burial environment, in particular soil moisture, has a significant impact on the type, rate, and extent of bone degradation, which ultimately affects estimations of the postmortem interval (PMI). Experience in transplantation of vascularized tissue grafts in 38 patients with chronic osteomyelitis showed the method to be highly effective and to possess some essential advantages over the other methods for surgical treatment of chronic osteomyelitis. Some types of skin and musculocutaneous grafts were used in cases with affection of the leg and foot bones with defects in the skin and soft tissues and "osteomyelitic ulcers". A vascularized graft of the greater omentum was used in the management of large osteomyelitic cavities in the tubular bones. The grafts took in 92.1% of patients.

The pattern of long bone growth in Eskimo and Aleut juvenile skeletons reflects that in living Eskimos and Aleuts. There is a pre-adolescent growth spurt which is particularly intense in females. After age 14 male long bones supercede those of females in length. The characteristic Eskimo and Aleut adult body proportion is established early in childhood. Eskimos and Aleuts have shorter bones than whites at all ages. The difference in length of the forearm and lower leg in comparison with whites appears to increase especially at adolescence.

Fractures of the great toe sesamoids occur much less frequently than fractures of other bones, and, as such, the literature is sparse in dealing with this topic. Two cases of a rare occurrence of tibial and fibular sesamoid fractures on the same metatarsal are reported. Each case had a traumatic origin, and successful healing occurred in one case following 6 weeks of short leg casting. Total excision of both sesamoids was required in case 2 after complete healing was not achieved by short leg casting alone.

Ten cases of neurofibromatosis, nine involving the lower extremity and one, the upper extremity, were analysed for growth and modelling errors. Thirteen patients with dyschondrosteosis from eight families are reviewed and their clinical and radiographic variation noted. Torsion testing is considered a suitable method for measuring the strength of long bones.
