PURPOSE: To describe a simple yet effective method to access the lens in cases of severe ectopia lentis, in which over 50 % of the lens is c … ess and maintain the capsular bag by hooking and centering the lens-bag complex in cases of extreme lens subluxation.

PURPOSE: To describe our results with the AssiAnchor capsule device in cases of subluxated crystalline lenses.
METHODS: This was a retrospective consecutive case series. Seven eyes of four patients with subluxated crystalline lenses underwent lensectomy/phacoemulsification with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation using the AssiAnchor capsule device in the Kaplan medical center, ophthalmology department. Three patients had Marfan syndrome and one patient had experienced blunt trauma. Demographic data were collected as well as parameters of pre- and postoperative distance visual acuity and refr

Traboulsi syndrome is a rare genetic disorder characterized by facial dysmorphism, lens subluxation, anterior segment anomalies, and spontaneous filtering blebs. The syndrome is due to mutations in the ASPH gene, which plays a crucial role in the development and maintenance of the lens. This case report describes the clinical and genetic findings in a Mexican male with Traboulsi syndrome, highlighting the identification of a novel ASPH variant. A 21-year-old male presented with trauma to the right eye while playing soccer. He had a history of lens subluxation and dysmorphic facial features. Op…

PURPOSE: To describe a novel surgical technique for managing posteriorly dislocated crystalline lens in low-income settings, which involves levitation of the lens with a 25-gauge needle and subsequent lens expression through a scleral tunnel.
METHODS: A superior self-sealing scleral tunnel of 8 mm length is created without entering the anterior chamber. A complete 23-gauge 3-port pars plana vitrectomy is performed. After vitrectomy completion, the scleral tunnel is opened. A 25-gauge bent needle is introduced in the vitreous cavity and used to elevate the crystalline lens above the iris plane

PURPOSE: To evaluate corneal curvature, pachymetry, and endothelial cell density (ECD) in Marfan syndrome (MFS).
METHODS: A case-control study in which K values, pachymetry, and ECD were compared in 39 MFS eyes and 40 control eyes matched for age and refraction was conducted. MFS eyes with lens subluxation also were compared with eyes without subluxation.
RESULTS: The mean K(med) value in MFS eyes was lower than in the control eyes, 42.2 ± 1.9 versus 43.4 ± 1.4 dioptres (D), respectively (p = 0.02). Fifteen MFS eyes (38%) and three control eyes (8%) had K(med) values below 41.5 D (p = 0.0012…

A case of retinal disinsertion syndrome in a 31-year-old mentally retarded patient was reported. Associated anomalies included subluxation of the lens, microphthalmos and bilateral keratoconus. Total retinal detachment and subluxation of the lens in a blind microphthalmic eye of a young infant should raise the possibility of retinal disinsertion syndrome.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the incidence, risk factor(s), and surgical outcomes of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) in patients undergoing pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) with sutureless scleral-fixated intraocular lens implantation (SFIOL).
METHODS: Records of patients (1311 eyes, 1234 patients) who underwent PPV and sutureless SFIOL from 2017 to 2018 were retrospectively analyzed.
RESULTS: The indications SFIOL were subluxated lens (33.7%), dislocated IOL (21.7%), surgical aphakia (20.1%), congenital lens subluxation (11.1%), nucleus drop (6.9%), and post-open globe injury (OGI) repair (6.5%)…

Management of subluxated cataracts is challenging, especially in cases with more than 5 clock hours of subluxation. Capsular bag stabilising devices are of utmost importance in these cases. We report two cases of post-traumatic lens subluxation of more than 6 clock hours, in which the bag was stabilised intraoperatively using two capsular tension rings (CTRs) placed diametrically opposite to each other, in place of the conventional Cionni ring. Slow phacoemulsification was done followed by intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Postoperatively, the IOLs were found to be well centred. Also, the u…

Megalocornea in isolation is a rare congenital enlargement of the cornea greater than 13 mm in diameter. Patients with megalocornea are prone to cataract formation, crystalline lens subluxation, zonular deficiencies and dislocation of the posterior chamber intraocular lens (PCIOL) within the capsular bag. A 55-year-old male with megalocornea in isolation developed subluxation of the capsular bag and PCIOL. The PCIOL and capsular bag were explanted, and the patient was subsequently implanted with an anterior chamber iris claw lens. An anterior chamber iris claw lens is an effective option for t…

A homocystinuric child presented with a secondary pupillary block glaucoma due to anteriorly subluxated lens. After removal of the subluxated lens, a suture supported posterior chamber IOL was implanted. Postoperative complication of cerebral venous thrombosis following general anaesthesia was managed with high doses of pyridoxine special diet and drugs.

MATERIAL AND METHODS: Retrospective 5-year study based on general and ophthalmic history records, and including 268 eyes (174 patients), aged 50 years and over. Ophthalmological examination involved visual acuity, measuring of intraocular pressure, slit lamp examination and indirect ophthalmoscopy. Type of surgical treatment was tailored for each patient (extra capsular cataract extraction, phaco-emulsiphication).
RESULTS: Preoperative slit lamp examination showed phacodonesis in 17.91% (47), iridodonesis in 2.98% (8), pigment dispersion in 6.72% (18), lens subluxation in 4.85% (13) on the to…

Clinical relevance: Intraocular lens dislocation usually causes severe visual symptoms and even blindness in patients. It is important for e … ntraocular lens dislocation; it was also a risk factor for in-the-bag intraocular lens dislocation. Lens subluxation was significantly associated with the in-the-bag and late intraocular lens dislocations. Intraoperative and post-operative vitrectomy, rather than pre-operative vitrectomy, were associated with intraocular lens dislocation. Post-operative trauma was …
